tooks a couple of second when adding product into cart

hello everyone,
im not really sure if i post on the right subforum (please move it to the right one if im not posting on the right place)

i would like to ask if someone know what does the add to cart do when people click the button ?
my site need at least 5-10seconds when my customers add the item into their cart for the first time

i found this problem since i put a price list for shipping
where my shipping covered 10kg for arround 900 country states for 1 country (local), which i believe there will be arround 9000 rows in the database table

my question here is, is there a way to reduce the time needed when adding an item into cart ? i found most of my customers will think the site is broken when after a couple a seconds they add the item to cart but nothing happened, and some of them will leave my site

another information regarding to this problem are :

-there is not a problem of connection or internet speed i did a research from a couple of different ISP with different bandwith
-im using mysql, hosted on shared hosting
-using virtuemart 2.0.6
-the delay exist after i put the shipping method for 900 states (9000 shippind method since its covered 10kg)

i will really appreciate if someone here can guide me to solve this problem
