VirtueMart 1.1.x [ Old version - no longer supported ] > Shipping VM 1.1

Does the NEW auspost module work? and How do I integrate it?

<< < (2/2)

Dog_Guy:
thanks for a very concise explanation of the numbering of versions etc.

As I am making some small sales through my sites, I am concerned about mucking them up with doing my own upgrade, then trying to find someone reasonable (price and temperament etc) to do a fix, quickly.

So with Virtuemart, would I be able to stay with the 2.x version you suggest until version 3.x comes along - assuming that I am not worried about any of the extra features that the new versions may have? Does the new integral number suggest that a new structure has been created that is usually not compatable to any third party modules I have added to the current version?

Ideally I want to stay with versions as long as i can for expense and hassle reasons, as long as they are not security compromised. As said the only thing that has precipitated this in the first place is that a working auspost module (apparently) has only been created for v2.x vituemart, and with joomla dropping support for 1.5 soon, it makes sense to go through this pain at once (my theory).

Added to this choice is the issue that I will probably have to get the developer of my TOLL shipping module to update that code. More complications, for a 'free' cms site.

No such thing as free.......

Modules & plugins for J1.5/VM1.1 will not work for J2.5/VM2  but probably better to start trying an update now rather than be forced to shup down the sites should J1.5 get hacked.

With current 2.5/2 (and proposed) Joomla & VirtueMart versions upgrading should be far easier.

Dog_Guy:
It appears that there are a few restrictions with the new versions, as long as they are not catastrophic bugs I guess I will try the migrations.

The main thing I guess I need to know now is if the new auspost module for shipping is included in the new virtuemart version.

Due to the conjecture about how to upgrade (as seen in other threads) and error messages I would need to come back here to try and fix, and not knowing how to build a local test site ... I think that I will now have to find a developer to do the dual upgrade - but of course if they are stable and for developers the shifts are easy, then the quotes should be low right?

Guess I am about to find out.
