Standard Shipping for Individual Items

(1/1)

dpmcg:
Sorry - I know this is a problem that is quite common, but after much forum-searching I haven't found any real answers yet apart from setting product attributes... I'm also a complete newbie with VirtueMart.

I have started to try to use Standard Shipping. I started using it with the assumption that something falling in the weight range 300g to 600g would be a 500g parcel, something in the 600g to 1.2kg range would be a 1kg parcel, etc. - thus assuming that each individual parcel would be calculated individually and added together at the end.
I now realise that Standard Shipping runs cumulatively as far as I can tell? Thus 500g parcel + 1kg parcel = 1.5kg fee, rather than 500g fee + 1kg fee = Total fee?
I need to pack the parcels individually, so can't really work with this!

(I am selling boxes of sweets all at different weights (500g, 800g, 1kg and 1.6kg).
I am also selling under 3 different types of shipping. Therefore, I have UK for free.
Then, for parcels going to anywhere in Europe I want to charge 2.00 for 500g, 5.00 for 800g, 7.00 for 1kg, and 12.00 for 1.6kg;
and for parcels going to anywhere outside of Europe I want to charge 6.00 for 500g, 11.00 for 800g, 16.00 for 1kg, and 23.00 for 1.6kg.)

As I have three different specifications (free, Europe, worldwide), I don't think I can set a 'product attribute'. If I can, please inform how.

Please inform if there is a free module that does what I am looking for

Also, slightly different from the original question, am I right in thinking that the product is set default in pounds and the shipping module is set in kg?!

Any help would be sooo appreciated!!

lowmips:
My UPSv2/FedExv2/USPSv5 modules have a "Virtual Packages" feature and a "ship separate" option that do what you need.  If you are handy with PHP, you could download one of my modules and use it as a starting point for modifying the Standard Shipping module to accommodate your needs.

Hope this helps.
