Has anyone done a successful migration from VM 1.1 to VM, where all child products are imported as child products, all categories are imported correctly, all images come across etc??

I have done the migration but I have child products in vm1.1 that are no longer so in VM2.  Unravelling it all is likely to take a long time.

Steven,

No. I have tried the migration multiple times and there was always some piece from my VM1 shop that was missing. My products and categories all migrated fine. I did not have any child products, but I believe that child products are structured differently in the database for VM2.  I think your assumption is correct. The current process for setting up your child products is likely to take a long time. If you have some MySQL knowledge, your best bet would be to write a script that does this.

The biggest missing piece for me was product "attributes", which were what enabled product options such as color, etc. via drop-down/select lists in VM1. Attributes do not exist in in VM2. I found a free VM2 plugin to provide this functionality, that the helpful forum user BanquetTables.pro pointed me to. The plug-in can be found here: http://www.kaizenmediaworks.com/virtuemart-2-0-custom-field-dropbox-plugin

In the end, however, I have decided to wait until VM2 is a more complete and stable product and the extension community has had a chance to catch up.  I know the core VM2 team is working hard, but I think that unless you are an experienced PHP and MySQL developer, you are better off waiting a few months.

If you're interested, you can read my experience with migration here: in this forum, http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=101595.0 or use the direct link to my blog, http://www.teqknowledgy.com/index.php/news/28-articles/44-how-to-virtuemart-1x-to-2x-migration-

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
Thats the other issue I have.  I cant get the attributes across.  I structure a lot of my products by weight.

I am beginning to think I may have 'jumped' too soon to VM2.

Luckily its only on a test domain.

Cheers
Steven
