How to resend a user their password?
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:11:41 am »
Hi,

A user recently lost their password and I read that I can edit it in the database, but that I might also crash the shop.

I also read that there should be a mod that provides a button for users to get their password sent to their email. Does anyone know where to find this or if there is an easy work around?

Thanks

Bruce

Yes I know that the question I am asking is very simple, but I have not been into the config section for a while now.

I vaguely remember it could have something to do with activating joomla user or virtuemart users? Anyway, the VM section on my dogwalkers site (see sig) has the User and general admin info in the right hand column, but my healthy dog treats site does not. I have been looking at finding the difference in the set up between these two and have not narrowed it down yet.

If you can please help me, it would be appreciated. I have NO coding experience so I am hoping that this is a configuration issue. Thanks

If you enable "Show a Login Form for the customers?" in mod_virtuemart (the main VM module) then the lost password link will appear where you have that module published for your customers to use.

Also you can edit a user's password directly in Joomla's user manager - edit it, send them the new password and advise them to change it next time they log in.

Hi thanks for the tip ...

,,, but i think it might have been something else, that you maybe able to help explain or maybe its self explanatory.

I checked the two websites (my dog walking and my healthy dog treats sites) and indeed it is to do with the main virtuemart module, but "Show a Login Form for the customers?" was ticked in both cases.

The difference was that in the dog walking site under the MENU assignment box, the 'select menu items' box was checked and the 'Buy Dog treats' link was selected UNDER the LEFT hand menu option.  I did this because the site was mainly about dog walking, not selling treats, so i only wanted the user box on the treat page.

For some reason in the healthy dog treat site, when the ALL menu option is selected, the user box did not appear anywhere? SO like the dog walking site, I assigned the virtuemart module to the left hand menu item.

If ALL is selected, shouldnt the user box be shown on all pages? well it seems to be fixed, so thank you,
