Title: Multilanguage site and Custom Fields translation
Post by: itsystem on February 06, 2012, 12:04:17 PM
Hello,

I use Virtuemart 2 in a multilanguage website (french and english) - Joomla 1.5.
French is the default language and I would like to translante all Custom Fields in English
But when I'm editing Custom Fields in French there no flag to switch in english.

How can I translate all my Custom Fields in English ?

Thanks for helping.

Hi

Just use a variable for a custom field name and value and translate it.

Hello and thank you for the answer.
But the website has already more than 300 custom fields.
And the trader who manages the store can not implement this solution.
It would be better if we could switch from one language to another, as in the management of items.
It seems more logical ...

HI
If you must have translation, you must then include a self made translator
or simply add in virtuemart language file the corresponding translation
the simple TEXT are autochecked to use an "existing" key.

We are one thinking the best way to achive the translation for customfields, but now you must find a kick way to do it.

@Electrocity
In my opinion the whole database structure of the custom fields should change.

Its too redundant and hard to manage records stored multiple times. For example you can find the word "red" 50 times in the same table. Its hard to translate or change 50 records.
All the values should be stored in one table and the relationships of the values with the products in another.

e.g. table CustomValues (custom_value_id, custom_field_id, name,) , table CustomValue_products (custom_value_id,product_id).

I find at least 3 major advantages in this approach the 3rd is the speed of the search queries

We implemented multi-lingual custom fields in the version 3.1.0 of Custom Fields For All

Sounds like you do not use the lists, which provide that.
