Title: is it safe to create plugin at this point?
Post by: kyrotomia on December 02, 2011, 16:31:54 PM
Hi,

I previously created a Canada Post shipping plugin which was working while the RC2 M was still the latest version available in the virtuemart redmine. Now, I see today that the shipping plugin has considerably changed in the RC3, and so I have to learn the new structure and update my plugin.

My question is, is it "safe" to create a plugin at this point? Can anyone confirm or not if there is a possibility of another major code change?

Also, where should I look for the most accurate documentation on the shipment plugin? Should I look into the weight_countries or rather the base vmShipperPlugin vmPSPlugin class?

Thank you

Edit : seems vmSipperPlugin is no longer used, vmPSPlugin is...

I can't say with certainty, but I believe it's pretty safe to develop plugins at this point. The team is trying to do an official release very soon (http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=94183.0). They have been doing a lot of work on the plugin system in the last revisions, but I wouldn't really expect any more major changes before the final release. I'm starting on a shipping plugin myself this afternoon.

Hi

We did a lot of changes in the way the plugins are handled for the RC3 release.
It is better to base your code on the RC3 version.
The pre-release is available here:

We will also update the wiki http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/wiki
