Title: PayPal commands obsolete? Wrong?
Post by: hann on August 13, 2011, 19:11:46 PM
01 Apr 2008, the PayPal cmd "_ext-enter" was added to:
administrator/components/com_virtuemart/sql/sql.virtuemart.php

Why? The _ext-enter value was phased out by PayPal on Aug 2006. Why would anyone put that in on 01 Apr 2008? Seems this change was made by Sören Eberhardt-Biermann?

It's been 3 years since someone looked at the PayPal variables in VirtueMart, it seems. Should we reconcile them with current PayPal documentation? Does anyone want me to do it?

PayPal is very widely used by many VirtueMart users. Lots of errors and issues reported about VirtueMart's integration with PayPal too.

Anyway, I'll be updating the PayPal integration for "Website Payments Standard" (in payment method "PayPal (Legacy)"). Somebody please let me know if I should be doing something else (and better) instead.

Also, is the new PayPal payment method "PayPal (API)" only to do with Express Checkout? If it is, why not simply name it "PayPal (ExpressCO)"? Maybe we should follow how PayPal names its products?

Ok, I'm going in to hack things now. Warn me to stop if I'm in the wrong direction.
