Child product is created even when 'Cancelled'.
Select a product, click on Child Product and than Cancel button, the child product is created, it shouldn't.
The issue is still present in v1.9.8G

This is not an issue, when you press create child product, the child is created, done. That we open it automatically for editing is something else.
The issue is that it is created automatically (it shouldn't) even though didn't want to create, clicking cancel doesn't help either, it should only create when save button is pressed.

I don't understand the problem, you have a child in one step
And can delete it in one Step
Click on delete or do cancel in edit , philosophy choice or not ?
For eg. I love the clone function. ANd how to do 20 clones when you must save all clones or cancel it ?
It is not an issue but a bug if I click on New Product and cancel it without saving no product is created the same should be for child product if I click on child product and cancel it (change mind don't want to create child) it shouldn't save/create the child product it should only create when save button is pressed I know I could always delete the created child but why should it create it in the first place.
Because it is instantly created, like instantly cloned.
We would do the same with new, but when you want to create a product, you need a name and things like this in it. It is definitly not a bug.
You call it function, I will call it bug.
