Title: Upgrade later on to version 2 from most recent version
Post by: k043 on February 02, 2011, 18:17:50 PM
If im gonna use the most recent stable version will i be able to upgrade to version 2 later on without deleting my content? How exactly does an upgrade work? Is it better to make an clean install to new version 2 when it is released? Can I somehow make backup of my existing info.... please explain to me.

I dont have the time to wait for version 2 to work with new joomla 1.6 so ive decided to use joomla 1.5 verson that works with VM. Problem is the updrage thing to joomla 1.6 and vm 2.0

VM2 will be compatible to j1.5 and j1.6

It will be possible to migrate the products, categories, shoppers, users, orders and maybe some other stuff. Due to many changes it wont be easy to take over the discounts, tax, paymentmethods and such things.

Great! - so I can continue to add products in VM1.6/1.7 and export them to VM2.0 when it becomes available to the public. (I was just going to test if it works to export/import products manually with phpadmin or another mysql tool from VM1.6 into the first VM2 beta) However, I will ommit uploading image files in order to avoid exporting the crippled image file names including the ugly md5 hash suffix.  ;)
