Title: How on earth do you modify files in com_virtuemart? (SOLVED)
Post by: 121 on June 10, 2010, 02:43:59 am
I keep finding solutions to various problems which instruct me to change some php code in com_virtuemart, but I can't change permissions on com_virtuemart using FileZilla.

'550 Could not change perms on com_virtuemart: Operation not permitted'

How is everyone doing this??

File ownership problem... you should be able to change file permissions using FileZilla (that's what I use).

See http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=304&t=333089 for an explanation of the problem (you don't own the files) and some possible solutions.

Hi Rich,

I think I did what was described in that link. I've tried changing permissions using my host cpanel and also with FileZilla but that didn't work.

I just want to do simple things like this,

http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=37598.0;prev_next=prev (http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=37598.0;prev_next=prev)

I also would like to mod some Virtuemart icons to blend in with my custom template skin.

Am I the only one unable to change com_virtuemart or are others having the same problem?

To change ownerships you need to CHMOD the directories/files. If you don't have root access on the server you should ask your host to do it. If it is a cPanel server they will be well used to such requests. Once you own the files you can change permissions.

Thanks Jenkinhill,

My host fixed this in 30 seconds via 'live chat'. I didn't even have to submit a ticket  ;D
