Title: One Product - Multiple Prices by currency - Fixed Price, not Fair
Post by: kemikillkv on February 15, 2010, 21:38:27 pm
I am setting up a joomla/virtuemart site for a client and he requires the products to have multiple prices by currency, USD, AUD, EUR & CNY. He does not want fair pricing for these items.

For example one product will have the price:
39.95 USD
50.00 AUD

I need to find a way to make the product change to the price set my switching the currecny in the currency selector in VM. I also can not figure out how to add multiple prices per product.

This is very time sensitive so I would appreciate a fast and helpfull response.

Thanks, Jason.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only person having this problem. Well kinda... Are you trying to create multi-level pricing, or are you trying to simply do a currency conversion. If you are trying to take a US price and convert to a different currency using a conversion rate, there is some documentation on this, but will depend upon what versions of VM and Joomla you are using. However, if you are trying to do multiple prices on one product, we have a similar problem.

I am currently working on how to do an "ABC Pricing Scheme" based on "User Level". This means that I will have 3 (or more) levels of pricing. I will have one price for "Retail" one for "Wholesale" and one for "OEM" etc. Its says in the VM 1.1.x features, the multiple pricing levels per product is a feature. But I have yet to find anymore information on the subject. I am looking into this...

If anyone has insight on this, please let me know.

kemikillkv - Please post your setup.

Mine is:
Joomla 1.5.10
VM 1.1.3

Thanks in Advance.

Wow, if I had just kept looking. It took me longer to write the post than it did you find my answer.

I am using the latest versions of VM and Joomla. I keep them auto updated.

I do not want currency conversion. I want multiple prices based on currency.

E.G.
39.99 USD
50 AUD

etc...

Ok I tried the link you gave me and it sort of worked.

I attached a screen shot of what hapenned.

I want the price to show 50.00 for AUD currency. But when you switch the currency throught eh currency selector, it converts the currency instead of using the addition price for that currency.

Thanks for the response but that's not really what I'm looking for. I want to set specific prices by country and override the currency converter. If I have a product that is 39.99 in USD, I also have the same product for 50.00 AUD. I want no conversion of currency. I just want to be able to set these individual prices for 5 different currency. So when you select the currency it changes to the right price for that currency.

I tried setting the conversion rate to "0" in the daily.xml file but it just gave me a bunch of errors.

So you don't want to set the conversion rates, but fix the prices like how Apple & Adobe rip us off in the UK. You will need some core hacking to do that.

I don't agree with this method either. But that's how my client wants it done. I suggested fair pricing through conversion but he insists on having it done this way.

Since I have to do some core mods, does anyone have an idea of the files I should be looking at to start this. I am pretty familiar with PHP but not Joomla/VM code. A list of files, functions to look at would be nice. Thanks, Jason.

Same here and extremely disappointed that this is not possible ... only by hardcore programming!

There are sooo many stores that don't use a one on one currency conversion.
This is what most of them do, which is based on the local market pricing policy (Call it the Apple/Adobe ripp off policy):

Product A     EUR 10     USD 15     GBP 5
Product B     EUR 10     USD 18     GBP 7
Product C     EUR 8      USD 15     GBP 9

So, to be clear, there's no relationship between the currencies. You just need multiple pricefields for different currencies.

Is there no other way of fixing this ... can you install multiple VM's or something ... this is soooo vital for our international trading, that we are sort of desperate here.
It looks like we need to do three installations of Joomla/VM ...

Please advice!

Best, Eric

thanks Kelvyn,
i had found that post but i thought it's meant for conversions value fix and not, as i need, to give a product more prices in different currencies disabling automatic conversion...
like:
product A: € 20  $ 10
product B: € 10  $ 20

if what you linked is the answer i'm sorry for bothering.. and try to follow instructions

thanks

Marco

Use that to fix the conversion rates how you wish. Use the mod_virtuemart_currencies module to allow user selection.

sorry for abusing your kindness.. but are you sure it works even in the case you have products priced this way:
product A: €10  $20
product B: € 10  $30

i mean i can't follow a conversion rule.. i see in the explaination of this mod that this way you can set your own conversion but i need to be able to directly set prices in two different currencies..
as i see is the case of Bonkers and kemikillkv..

anyone any idea?

thanks

Ah you want to use a different conversion rate for different products? That cannot be done. Although it would be possible if using shopper groups where you set a group price per product.

Hello all,

I am facing the same problem with Joomla 2.5.4 and VM 2.0.6 , I am using 3 currencies EURO,USD,INR.

I want set the price like this

   Product A:

Price in euro : 1 euro
Price in USD : 1.3049 USD
   Price in INR  : 70.9474

And if a user select the currency from the VM currency selector the price should display based on the currency

Hi

I have the same issue.

I need 2 independent sets of prices, one in USD and one in ZAR.

Has anyone figured out how to do this?

thanks
