Title: Problems with Moving Virtuemart? FAQS
Post by: PRO on August 21, 2009, 15:03:56 pm
When you move virtuemart from one URL to another, you have to update the URL settings in your virtuemart configuration. This also applies to moving from or to a subdomain or folder.

To update this file after moving your shop, FTP to your host.
Download    virtuemart.cfg.php
Path to File Here
administrator/components/com_virtuemart/virtuemart.cfg.php

Change your shop URL, and your Secure URL to your new shop address. Both must have either the www. or non-www. They must match UNLESS one is https but it styill must contain the www or non-www like the other one.

If you moved from one host to another, and your thumbnails are not showing
Most of the time you need to re-create the thumbnails. This is done by

Go into your virtuemart administrator. Then to configuration, and then the "site tab".

Disable "Enable Dynamic Thumbnail Resizing?" Save Your Changes
Then Re-enable "Enable Dynamic Thumbnail Resizing?" Again, and Save.

Also Make Sure The Image Directory is 755

This can cause missing thumbnails

ADDITIONAL IMAGES USUALLY IF CREATED VIA THE MEDI MANAGER HAVE ABSOLUTE URLS. SO, after moving from one domain to another, you need to use csv improved to remove the domain from the url. Or you may use myphpadmin to update the product_files list without the absolute url.

here is a link to instructions on moving vmart with Akeebah Backup. (formerly known as joomlapack)

Thanks for the point-by-point tips on both how to make the move and things to look out for after the move. The first tutorial was instrumental in the migration I am now completing, but unfortunately I just learned some of the post - move things the hard way myself.

Do you have any pointers regarding what to do with converting language files from the old VM to the new VM system? I want to be able to keep the old translations, but the file structure is very different. Will the old lang files be picked up by VM if I put them in the file structure in their old location?

I have to tell you: AWESOME job!!

I did a "normal" copy of the main site, as we needed a different setup for our B2B customers and of course: it miserably failed. Using the Admin module, the links would switch between the retail and the B2B site without me noticing, because they looked almost exactly the same.

Finding this and following your step by step tutorial has saved my day (and our business).

Thanks for uploading this. 5 stars!!

You know I do not know about this at all.

I never used the old Vmart

I also wanted to thank you.

This explenation is quit clear for all.

One question though.
Wouldn't this override your complete site, together with the original orders and users? Or is that where you pointed out to the exlusion of tables, etc.?

If so, can you point me out on what to exlude to not overwrite new customers and orders made on my live site in the time I was developing on my local test.

thnnx in advance.

I've found out the hard way about the problems using joomlapack and virtuemart.  I am interested in the document that you referenced in your post http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=59414.msg194942#msg194942

Is there anyway that I may get a copy of it?

Thanks,

To get the additional images to show

Do a "product_files" export with CSV improved, and then do a search and replace for the old url, and replace it with "/"

do you have csv improved? If so there is  a "product files" export.

It does not export files, but just their info, and address.

The address still points to the old site

This field must be like: "http://www.newsite.gr/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/filename.jpg"

or must be like:
"/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/filename.jpg"?

have you disabled dynamic thumbnails, saved, and then re-enabled them?

I've had the same problem but found an easier solution and images and everything else came back.

1. after move to another directory/location change the joomla config file.

2. in Joomla backend go to components - virtuemart and click on admin - configuration, it'll try to go to confuguration but the url for that ain't right. Just change the url in your browser address field to where it really should go. Now when you hit enter the backend configuration page should come up as normal.

3. Go to security tab and change the url there to what it should be for the new location.

Works like charm every time and takes a fraction of time than every other way I've had to do it before.

Hi,

I'm having a real headache with thumbnails and large images not showing after a server migration and upgrade from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5.

No images show on the browse page ( where the main image thumbs should reside ) however the additional image thumbs are visible on the product flypage.

On the flypage while the thumbnails are all visible, when clicked the large images are not found.

I've read through various forum posts and these are the steps I've taken so far to try to resolve:

Checked Joomla and Virtuemart config - they both contain the new URL.

I've disabled dynamic thumbnail resizing and then re-enabled it. No change.

Checked file/directory permissions as within this post above and they are all set to 755.

Did several exports with CSVI Virtuemart and this is what I've found:

With the product export - references to the main image and thumbnail are as follows:

"Linear_Small_4cd13739ac5e6.jpg" and "resized/Linear_Small_4cd13739a3a86_150x150.jpg"

With the Product Files export:

"product_files_file_name" contains relative filepath without domain name. e.g.
"/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/magis_dejavu_s_425a.jpg"

"product_files_file_url" contains the full absolute (old) URL e.g.

So I changed the URL references in the CSV file so that it contained the new domain name, imported with CSVI, go back and check the thumbnails on the browse page and the links on the product details page - but they're still broken.

Strangely, when I did another export, the URL's had not changed to the new domain. Not sure if this is an issue with CSVI Virtuemart or if there's something else going on.

I then isolated a product in phpMyAdmin. The URL's indeed had not changed, despite the import reporting success. So I manually changed each image URL to reflect the new domain i.e. http://mynewdomain.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/magis_sp_bombo_s_425b.jpg. Saved this and indeed the large images display correctly on the product details page when the thumbs are clicked.

So now I need to change all references to the old URL. But since CSVI Virtuemart isn't doing the job, can anyone please help me out with the SQL command to change via phpMyAdmin ?

Secondly - still no thumbs displayed on the browse page - is this related to the way the filenames are referenced ? ( as mentioned above, relative path "resized/thumbimage.jpg" ).

Any ideas very very gratefully received after many hours of bafflement.

Thanks

I just moved my Virtuemart to my home domain and have solved everything other than the asbeel virtuemart horizontal login. The login is a complete mess with a black line above it and text such as 'forgot your password' and 'register' not showing (however the link itself remains).

Any ideas?

Or you may use myphpadmin to update the product_files list without the absolute url.

hi,
i'm having troubles with thumbs too.. i did all the disable/save/enable thing and renamed in the mysql file the url of images to make them work. full dimension and small thumbs work but not the image in the product page...
here is the image url i get which doesn't work:

the fact is i checked the same product on the functioning site from which i'm moving and it gets same kind of address (obviously with different domain name..) but it works..
anything to do with timthumb? i checked and folders permissions are the same.

thanks

Hello,
Thanks for very informative thread which helped me with almost all the issues.

Theres one more thing I can't get through.
I was just redeveloping online shop from scratch using the same host but diferent subfolder. Completly new joomla 1.5.23 and VM1.1.9 installation. Once happy with layout I put about 15 products in and then renamed subfolders to match the new one with what the domain is pointing to. Domain voovoounique.com is pointing to folder voovoo. I changed the name of old folder voovoo to voovoo1 and folder with fresh installation to voovoo.
Then I edited configuration.php and virtuemart.cfg.php
Then I edited entries in database table jos_vm_product_files to match new paths to the images.
I was surprised to see only three rows with products while I have 10 with images uploaded and some more without. What could be the reason for that?
Anyway I can see the images and some of the thumbnails on the product pages but cant get the to work on category page?

As there is only few products I decided to maually reupload them from the VM backend for every product. Unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem??
Where else should I look?

category view with products with and without images:
http://www.voovoounique.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

product view for the same product displays large images slideshow, but not the thumbs:
http://www.voovoounique.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_default.tpl&product_id=1&category_id=20&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

Thank you for any input
Michal

I havn't moved from one host to another. As I described in earlier post I created new website and swapped subfolder names on the same host. Domain is pointing to the same subfolder.
Just checked as you  sugested. I normally have the "Enable Dynamic Thumbnail Resizing" [off] for the template to work properly. If I now switch it back on I have the images resized for the category page but on the product page instead of normal size image I get small thumbnail.
result of switching it on can be seen here:

Hello,

I moved a joomla site with virtue mart from one domain to the other.  I changed all the configuration.php and virtuemart.cfg.php data to the current domain and the site itself displays fine, but virtue mart doesn't show up at all.  There are no add to cart buttons, prices, etc. I left the file structure intact.  Any advice on what I should try to do next?  I have noticed that the config files are not writable through Joomla backend and I've had to change and upload them manually.

Thank you,

Eric

Yes, the product pictures and descriptions show up.  It's just the cart functionality that isn't displaying - the 'add to cart', quantity, price, etc.

akeebah backup is the only way I would move a joomla site.

IT is the best, and you should have it ATLEAST to run backups

I installed akeeba backup and akeeba kickstart and got it all the way to the extracting the backup file section in akeeba kickstart.  I had to use the ftp extraction method as 'directly' wouldn't work.  I have the public_html file permissions set to 755 and the kicktemp directory set to 777.    The temporary directory checks and all the other data is correct but when I try to test the ftp connection it keeps telling me The FTP connection Failed.  Wrong FTP Host or Port.  I have it on the correct ftp host:  ftp.swissgenesisskincare.com, and the correct port:  21.  I don't know what can possibly be wrong.  This information is absolutely correct.  Any suggestions?

Ok, I got it mostly working.  You are only able to "Add To Cart" if you are logged in though.  When you click the add to cart button without being logged in it just displays the loading circle over the Login button.  Any idea why it might do that?  Is that possibly the Ajax?

Ok, I managed to fix it.  There was an ownership problem that wasn't allowing the configuration.php, etc. files to be writable through the Joomla back-end.  I had to make sure the “configuration.php” file was set to “FTP enabled”  and changed the file permissions from 755 to 775. The files are now writable and it also allowed the orders to be placed with add to cart button.

Thanks for your help.

I installed VirtueMart Paypal Pro in order to process credit cards through paypal, now the cart's not working again.  I'm back to the loading circle spinning forever when you click add to cart.  I don't even know what to do now.  I've changed permissions on just about everything.

I've also disabled Ajax on the add to cart button like you suggested and still get the loading circle constantly spinning.  All the permissions are set so that all the files are writable so there doesn't seem to be an issue there.  I added the PayPal_Pro_US extension and since then cannot get the add to cart button to work at all.  Is it possible something in those files could cause this?  Or is this maybe a Joomla issue?

are you using express checkout?

I do not know much about that

I'm not even able to get to the checkout page.  When I click "Add To Cart" on a product it stays on the same page but a loading circle starts spinning over the "Login" tab in the menu bar and never stops.

Hi

My cart was working fine but I did have to move to a different hosting I already updated the database and all the folders. I did keep the same domain.

Now the checkout process works fine until I get to the last step, after I confirm my shipping details. When I click on my Confirm button the page displays a message saying your cart is empty... and that's it.

When I tried shop again, the product I purchased before was in the cart, but again, in the last step, page went blank, then refreshed itself and showed me the empty cart message again.

Any ideas... I got no idea what am I missing.

Thanks!

In the Site URL I got http://www.bff.com.co/ as well as in SECUREURL because I'm not using an SSL.

To move it I followed
1. Dump the original Joomla MySQL Database
2. Install Joomla! on your new server
3. Import the Old Database Dump into the New Database
4.  OVERWRITE the folders
administrator
components
editor
help
images
includes
language
media
modules
templates

according to http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=187461

By the way, this is the URL's site: http://bff.com.co

Thanks a lot! I'm stuck :(

I did the whole thingg again using akeeba.
Still same issue. I've tested all topcis related to 'your cart is currently empty' in this forum. From changing the plugins cache, playing with php.ini to veryfing cookies and session variables.... everything.

Nothing works out for me yet.

Still my cart goes empty on last step... Any ideas, what else can I try?

Hi,

for me all went well, apart from one thing: In the back-end, I am not able to edit or add payment options any more. The backend template and the css do not load (see attachment).

It ONLY happens at this specific place, all other admin sections work perfectly.

It must have happened when moving my site from the server (using Akeeba) to my local host. I discovered the issue only after restoring the site at my new host, then I checked the off-line copy (on WAMP) and the issue was there as well.

Everything else (both front and backend) works as a charm, only this particular back-end part is messed up.

I suspect that a certain file is missing or corrupt, but I do not know which one. Anybody who can point me in the right direction?

I am pretty desperate now, searched the whole forum and more, but all solutions solve the issue when this happens for the whole back-end...

Joomla 1.5.25, VM 1.1.9 (I know they are not supported any more, migration two VM2 is planned in the first Q of 2013 - after the X-mas season)

Thanks for your help!

I suspect that a certain file is missing or corrupt, but I do not know which one.

So, it was indeed a corrupted file - probably damaged during the back-up and restore process. After checking many different files and exclude different options by reading many, many posts on this forum, it appeared that the file store.payment_method_form.php should be the evil-doer.

Luckily, I had on my local drive an older downloaded copy (downloaded by FTP, not a real backup) of the site. I took the file from here, over-wrote  the existing file - and issue solved!

Important note: I thought about this option earlier, and did a content check of the two files, using PSPad (www.pspad.com) - which showed no difference between the two. So I left this posisbility asided, only getting back to it after I deducted that it could be the only solution left... Lessen learned: Even a content comparison of two php files which shows no differences, is not a guarantee of identical behaviour within Virtuemart.
