I see that some users still don't know exactly how to install the language pack... Here it is a simple screenshot guide.
1°: download language pack
http://dev.virtuemart.net/cb/displayDocument/Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.2.zip?doc_id=2372
2°: extract zip file on your pc
(http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/6527/languagepackextractjs3.th.png) (http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=languagepackextractjs3.png)(http://img211.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif) (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
3°: upload whole "language" folder (without entering in it) to /administrator/components/com_virtuemart
(http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/3765/languagepackuploadad4.th.png) (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=languagepackuploadad4.png)(http://img209.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif) (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
Note: to work, you MUST have installed and actived as default also the corresponding Joomla! 1.5 language pack.
Hope this help!

How do you mean "doesn't work"? Please explain in details: language pack used (VM & Joomla), Joomla version, VM version....
-
So let me see, we need to download the language pack from Joomla (for Joomla)and. Then the language pack from Virtuemart and install both?

Yes; the Joomla's language pack, of the desidered language, must be installed and activated.

It doesn't work for me too.
I am testing "VirtueMart_1.1.2_eCommerce_Bundle_Joomla_1.5.8.tar.gz" which should be very up-to-date.
I am testing with Simplified Chinese.
1. I have uploaded Joomla Chinese translation [zh-CN] to [Joomla/language] folder.
2. I have uploaded VirtueMart language packs to [Joomla\administrator\components\com_virtuemart\languages] folder.
I changed the language setting in Joomla Administration Backend. But I see no language change at front end.
Checking Joomla\administrator\components\com_virtuemart\classes\language.class.php at line 244, I try echo ADMINPATH. 'languages/'.$module.'/'.strtolower($mosConfig_lang).'.php<br>';
The code is forever printing "/public_html/joomla/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/english.php"
$mosConfig_lang is always english, it doesn't change at all.
I am very don't understand. How does language packs for VirtueMart work?

Portuguese language is not fully translated.. Try with Language Manager:

I downloaded Joomla 1.5.8 front-end Chinese language translation from here: http://www.joomla.cn/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_details&gid=627&Itemid=3
It is not directly installable. I extracted the language zip files and manually uploaded them onto [Joomla/language] folder.

http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=36269.0
Interesting, I see. There is this Language Manager tool to do the translation for VM1.1.
In the interface, current mosConfig_lang? has been preset to english.
After tracing deeply (http://apostilas.fok.com.br/docs/joomla-1.5/libraries/joomla/language/language.php.php#getbackwardlang), mosConfig_lang has something to do with legacy mode and I am still lost.
Question: In what condition, the value of mosConfig_lang will change in front end? Because my observation is, changing Joomla language or using JoomFish to switch between languages, mosConfig_lang simply won't change. Or have I missed any step?
-
@oraclesoon
Ok, as I suspected, the problem is in the Joomla language pack. Inside zh-CN.xml file, there is this line:
<backwardLang>english</backwardLang>
And, here the problem. VM use this "backwardLang" properties to set the language. Change this to simplified_chinese and everything should work
-
It works!
Changing <backwardLang>english</backwardLang> to <backwardLang>simplified_chinese</backwardLang> in zh-CN.xml is working!
-
@oraclesoon: very good! Spread this to all chinese users you know :)

Man it just doesnt help with the installation. My problem is with the Turkish language. In joomla Turkish was default before installing Virtuemart, now I added the language files as you told and it still uses english.
I couldnt find the xml file you mentioned about <backwardLang>english</backwardLang> I am almost gone insane about this language issue.

Ok, no worry, calm down.
There are 2 places:
* Joomla language pack, located in JoomlaRoot/language
* VirtueMart language pack, located in JoomlaRoot/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages
You have uploaded VirtueMart language pack to VirtueMart language pack. It is done.
Now, you need to upload Joomla Turkish language pack from the link below:
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,advsearch2/search_id,7122/Itemid,35/ (http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,advsearch2/search_id,7122/Itemid,35/) to JoomlaRoot/language.
<backwardLang> setting is found inside Joomla language pack.

Are you using Joomla 1.5?
Go to folder /language/YOURLANGUAGE and open file YOURLANGUAGE.xml; here you should find a backwardLang tag. If it does not exists (but strange), insert it before </metadata>:
<backwardLang>turkish</backwardLang>

I do have that file hrvatski.php in folder /administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/. I tried to open it and it looks fine to me.
Unfortunately, I don't understand why it is not working either, especially because I haven’t had any problem with installation.
Could it be because I'm building web site on my local computer? Before I installed joomla and VirtueMart I've had installed XAMPP for Windows from the XAMPP website: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html
I'm new to all this and I was hoping that somebody will have answer to my problem.
Thank you,
Jadranko

Hello
I also have the same problem with Greek language.
Done as told previously, Uploaded language file to administator/componenets/com_virtumart OK. Greek is working OK in Joomla!Translated all with Joomfish OK. On Joomla Greek language the backward tag is Greek OK, Have Greek in common folder .
Where do we all go wrong?
Is there a language settings within Virtuemart that I cannot find?
A reply will be helpfull
Thanks
Vas

I have done everything you have suggested but to no avail.
Virtuemart has no option to change language in the backend manually and the "virtuemart Language Manager" component shows only the english language although I uploaded (via ftp) all the necessary language files in /components/com_virtuemart/ directory (inside their "language" folder.
Is ther any other way to do it?
Am I missing something here?
Tx in advance.

i have the same issue on my site, i have downloaded the Arabic language pack from extensions for Joomla and Arabic pack for VM however when i go to my site its half Englihg and half Arabic, any ideas?

Engine: Joomla_1.5.9-Stable-Full_Package
Added: VirtueMart_1.1.2_eCommerce_Bundle_Joomla_1.5.9
Patch-VirtueMart-1.1.2-1.1.3
cs-CZ_joomla_lang_full.1.5.9v1
Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.3
I changed default language for pages and for admin to czech language, but virtuemart is still in english ???
Anyone have solved this problem?
Every tips and advices are welcome, thank you in advance.
Best regards zmatek
-
I have the same problem with Russian language.
"Joomla!" defult language is Russian, in xml-file I see "<backwardLang>russian</backwardLang>". And language folder is installed to "com_virtuemart" folder.
Anybody solve this problem?
-
I solve my problem...
It is completely my fault.
I copy "language" dir to "components\com_virtuemart" istead "administrator\components\com_virtuemart\".
It is foolish mistake, but maybe anybody repeat it. Be more attentive! :)
-
Hmmm,I got right directory and still nothing..:( but when I set up czech language manualy...rename czech.php on english.php then its run...but characters "šřěčřčščžř" doesnt show right:( anyone have got any idea?
-
btw: charset iso-8859-2 and windows-1250 doesnt solve it:(
-
Same here with German, VirtueMart stays English by all means. I tried with a fresh install of Joomla 1.5.9 and VirtueMart 1.1.3, newest language pack.
I have found the parameter backwardLang in my german.xml, but it is correctly set to German.
German is also the default language in my Joomla installation.
Does noone have a clue how to solve this? :(
Edit: I managed to solve it, with our site, it seems to have been some sort of caching problem.
-
I had the same problem. All the files where in the right folder.
But it just would't work.
Here's what I did.
- I remove the istallation of VM
- re-installed, BUT... I did not select SAMPLE DATA
- so, proceed to the shop without installing sample data
- then with FTP I uploaded the language folder in the /www/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/ folder
It is now fine.
-
I have tried the way to install all the files and fixed the xml file. In fact the new language changed, but the charactors did not display correctly, like this "ɌƷ??a>". I was trying to change english into simplifed chinese, and set the charset into UTF-8 for every simplified_chinese.php
-
I am not sure if this helps in anyway, but I did have the same problem in the beginning and after checking steps by steps, I figured it was a small issue of the file name itself. Even in the .xml file shows for example >Japanese< for the backward it does get set to lowercase within the VM code like..
if (file_exists( ADMINPATH. 'languages/'.$module.'/'.strtolower($mosConfig_lang).'.php' )) {
require_once( ADMINPATH. 'languages/'.$module.'/'.strtolower($mosConfig_lang).'.php' );
return true;
So you may want to make sure your language file names are set to lowercase letters like japanese.php
-
Got the same problem(Zh-CN) in backend and frontend display - all + English, Joomla 1.5.9 + VirueMart 1.1.3 + Joom!fish 2.0.2
Still trying to solve the problem.
The simplified chinese translation seems not complete one.

Hi there,
Couple of things to double check before giving up:
1. Make sure the VM language packs are installed in the right folders.
( administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/ then each folders has to have yourlanguage.php files besides the default english.php file.)
2. Make sure each on of yourlanguage.php files has the right 'CHARSET' set, which can be found at the top of each files code. Like....
global $VM_LANG;
$langvars = array (
'CHARSET' => 'ISO-2022-JP',
3. Make sure that each yourlanguage.php file name is in small latter and not like Yourlanguage.php with a capital 'Y'
4. Make sure you have the original Joomla side language installed of your language.
( See publich_html/languages and administrator/languages that they have like for Japanese would be ja-JP folders)
* publich_html/languages is for the front end users and administrator/languages is for the Admin control panel languages)
5 Inside these for example ja-JP folders, you will find a yourlanguage.xml file like for Japanese would be ja-JP.xml open these files and see that line: <backwardLang>yourlanguage</backwardLang> is set right. The language might show like for example <backwardLang>Japanese</backwardLang>, but no need to worry as the capital 'J' letter will be set to lower case when it looks on the VM side and is why you want to make sure your VM side yourlanguage.php files are set to lowercase file names.
6. Once these are all set, then you just have to make sure within Joomla Admin control panel that the default language set is set to your language and should work.
7 One last important this is that you must make sure all yourlaguage.php files are translated in to your language correctly and not just few lines with in the files to make sure it is all showing right and you want to make sure you are using the same CHARSET as the Joompla side language kit you use or else the they will not show up right as well.
Hope this helps some with key points of what to check before you give up.
-
One last thing I forgot to add. If you are using a Windows server then replace the 'public_html' with 'httpdocs' for the directories shown above.
-
Thanks for your advise, I solve the problem now by :
1. CHARSET => UTF-8
2. Open the lanaguage file and saved by UTF-8.
3. <backwardLang>simplified_chinese</backwardLang> OR rename as you wish, it does not matter the name, I think simplified_chinese is too long, prefer just zh-cn
The 1.5 joomla pages all standard UTF-8, using gb2312 would not work if Joomla and virtuemart rendering in the same page.
Besides, the downloaded Chinese language file is mixed with GB2312 and UTF-8. I don't think the sender has really tested the files.
Using Joomfish to translate also cause 3 warnings/errors in the "translationVm_categoryFilter.php" which should be easy to solve.

Hello everybody
I´ve downloaded the VirtueMart_1.1.2_eCommerce_Bundle_Joomla_1.5.9.tar and I want to install the german language, but I don´t find the way how to do this.
This is what i´ve tried:
* in the VirtueMart Adminstration - Extension - Install/Uninstall - Upload Package File - I selected the File Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.3.zip from my HDD and Upload File. But then comes the message "Warning! Failed to move file."
* i did unzip the Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.3.zip und uploaded the files via ftp to the tmp folder. then back to the Administration and "Install from Directory" - select the tmp folder - "# Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package. # Path does not have a valid package"
There is nowhere a xml setup. there are 19 folders in the language package and i have no idea how to install them.
Maybe someboy can help me with this

Hi there, I have installed the language pack to com_virtuemart/languages... all ok.
Have the spanish front end and backend languages installed in joomla 1.5.10 all ok..
However no luck! VM doesn't change to Spanish. In some place I read that one must place a spanish.php (I suppose a language file to start and change the settings) however, where on earth can I find this file. OR, what am I doing wrong. I have spent hours and hours trying to resolve this problem and I am sure I am not the only one. Thanks for your reply & help.

Тhere is small problem with Serbian language translation. Depending on language pack one need to rename all files in whole directory tree. (my problem was serbian_lat to serbian)

Hi Friends,
I am also interested in "How to install the language pack?" I have Joomla 1.5.9 and VM 1.1.3. I tried to follow the instruction from Pisu:
"1°: download language pack
http://dev.virtuemart.net/cb/displayDocument/Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.2.zip?doc_id=2372
2°: extract zip file on your pc
3°: upload whole "language" folder (without entering in it) to /administrator/components/com_virtuemart
Note: to work, you MUST have installed and actived as default also the corresponding Joomla! 1.5 language pack."
I extracted the file but I could not upload whole "language" folder (without entering in it) to /administrator/components/com_virtuemart
Could you help me please? Could you tell me what to do step by step?
Thanks in advance

The Language Pack is NOT a Joomla-installable package.
You should extract the pack on your pc (like a normal zip file).
Then open Filezilla (or your favorite ftp software); on remote site go to: administrator > components > com_virtuemart (you should see also the "language" remote directory"); then click on the local "language" directory and click UPLOAD.
I think it's not so difficult...
-

You have to enable the Legacy Mode plugin.

[edit]
I was having huge troubles installing the Croatian language pack that I found for download on this site. It didn't work, it was outdated and it had completely incorrect encoding in it.
This Croatian pack works, for Virtuemart 1.1.3:
http://www.crojoomla.com/component/option,com_docman/task,cat_view/Itemid,28/gid,94/
I tested on joomla 1.5.14 and mambo 4.6.5.
-
hi,
I had the same issue with Turkish, nearly crazy about it.but I solved!!
1-I install joomla 1.5.10 english pack with my template's quickstart.
2-Upgrade Joomla 1.5.14 with my language pack
3-I install virtuemart 1.1.3 complete pack
4-I upload virtuemart language folder
But My Joomla! was Turkish but My Virtuemart's frontpage was English.
and here is the trick;
Go to Extension>Language Manager and set your language to default. That's it!:))

Hi I have a problem with the language package for VM (package 1.1.3).
I have installed a Danish language package for Joomla (da-DK_joomla_lang_site.1.5.14), but I am only using this for the site not for the admin part.
I have uploaded the VM language folder as described but it doesn’t work. Instead all the text and pictures in the language module has disappeared.
Best regards

where is this <backwardLang>english</backwardLang> i have to change mine to french, i have downloaded the latest language pack from joomla, set my joomla language as french, and still nothing works, virtuemart is still in english..

read thru the thread and completed the suggested steps.
Still everything remains in english.
Do I need to download the language pack for the administrator side too?
I only downloaded the frontend language pack, cause I only need to translate the site.
-
ok, I uninstalled joomf!sh and now the translating work as it should. I hope I can install joomfish again without it breaking the joomla default translation.
-
Hello! I don't wabt to open a new post, so I'm writing here.
I had a language problem with older version of Joomla, so i went to 1.5
I've installed Croatina language, and set it to default site language.
I've installed VirtueMart, and language pack with Croatian language, but I can't get VM in Croatian. With older version I've got it but some croatian characters like ČĆŽĐ didn't work. I'm clueless what to do now. Any ideas why Cro language doesn't work? When I write something in Cro, it's OK...
-
OK, this seams to be a problem, I didnt have Hrvatski.php in folder \administrator\components\com_virtuemart\languages\common
now I have Cro language, but still the same problem with characters ČĆŽĐ, how to solve this problem?
-
OK, guys, I've solved the problem with this characters as well.
So for those of you who still have the problem like me, I'll try to explain what I've done.
First problem was I didn't have my native language at all, although I've downloaded language pack from virtueMart and copy paste it on my computer(I'm still working local) in the joomla virtueMart folder(components\com_virtuemart).
But the problem was, there was no croatian language in folder administrator\components\com_virtuemart\languages.
When copy/paste language pack there as well, I've got cro.lan. but I got problem with characters ČĆŠŽĐ.
Since nobody could help me here, I've started to search, and I've found out that in every mylanguage.php code starts as follows:
global $VM_LANG;
$langvars = array (
'CHARSET' => 'ISO-8859-1',
and that was a first problem.
If you change 'ISO-8859-1' to 'UTF-8' in every single php page in folder languages you'll get what you want. But croatian language files are not correct, and missing some translations.
So for Croatian this is the link where you can find croatian language pack that is ok:
http://www.crojoomla.com/component/option,com_docman/task,cat_view/gid,94/Itemid,28/
Hope I helped somebody!

Hi,
I`ve tried to follow all the steps above, but I still can`t translate VM 1.1 into another language... ???(I want to translate it to norwegian). I downloaded Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.4.zip, and extracted it. Then I tried to put the file into the right folder like Pisu showed on the forum. But since I`m working localy on my machine, I copied the extracted language pack to this location on my machine:
C:\wamp\www\mysite\administrator\components\com_virtuemart
I noticed that in this folder, there already was a "language" folder, and inside this were a bunch on folders with english.php files inside. Anyways, after I had completed this step, my VM was still english...
I`ve also installed the norwegian language pack for Joomla 1.5.14, and it`s working fine. So I can`t understand what I`m doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated ;D

Thank You!

Good evening.. i've uploaded the language pack via ftp on the right folder and there is the italiamn language default on my joomla site 1.5.15 but it is ever on english.. what i must do ?
thank at all

Okay, so here it goes:
I have a dual-language site (English/German) http://www.tialea.com. I am using Joomfish for keeping the languages straight. Default language is English.
Version of Joomla is 1.5.14 and Virtuemart 1.1.4.
I extracted and uploaded the Language Pack to the com_virtuemart directory. Nothing changed, though. I am expecting that when I switch between languages, that at least the Virtuemart vocabulary is changing, but no. It still talks about 'Add to Cart', 'Categories', and 'Product Details'.
Somewhere in this thread you talk about setting the default language. Is it not possible to have two languages? What does one have to do to do so?
As for the Virtuemart fields I am completing, such as the product name etc. can those be translated using the Language Manager (similar to Joomfish) or is the Language Manager just for creating standard Virtuemart vocabularies for each language?
Are there any plans for making component elements available to Joomfish for Virtuemart or is that impossible?

Hello,
Im new in trying VirtueMart, and Im trying to install danish translation, but can't get it to work for my site and in all my settings are danish, but noting worked for me. I have install the VirtueMart languages pack in \administrator\components\com_virtuemart\language\ ... Now what to do ? Hope someone can help me! :)
-
The thing I looked for the first and, hehe the only time :P I didn't get this to work was that I really didn't get all the language files in the correct directories.
eg. look into one folder of let's say ~/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/ and see if you can see the file danish.php in there.
I'm setting one site up that also is gonna have Danish in there and as I copied the files into those directories and I changed the language in the Joomla admin, it just worked.
I use the latest bundled version.
If it still won't work I think there might be a problem with the entire installation, maybe the Joomla installation.
If this is your first installation, just remove all files and just try from the beginning, cos in my first time... DOH!!! did I do it wrong, but since it still was "internal" like for me only, I removed all files and tried again from beginning.

Hello there, now i had try what you said.
I looked after the folder /administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/ and there was an danish.php and an index.php in there, then i tried copy the langauges packed there, but that diden't work. Then i tried copied the folderes to the names lets se /administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/common and i let the danish.php and index stay there, that dide't work . i cant understand that you said that i could try from beginning with joomla when is only virtuemart there is the problem here. You can visist my site: www.fanmedia.dk and tjek it out... mvh Louise :)

Louise,
here is what helped me, go to \administrator\components\com_virtuemart\languages and noticed that file with English in it, so i deleted it and bring Languages pack(you should get it from the site as well). Also should be good idea to be your language in Joomla on defolt. Hope it helps!:)

this does not work for me too...why is it so complicated to change the language?
i installed joomla 1.5.18 with german language pack. then i installed VirtueMart_1.1.4-COMPLETE_PACKAGE.j15 and overwrited the languages folder with the VirtueMart_1.1.4-COMPLETE_PACKAGE.j15. i changed the language in the joomla setting from german to english and back again...without success, vm stays in english.
what am i doing wrong??

Hi, I am trying to install a danish language package vm, but I have a problem. I put the folder with all the danish.php files, instead of the one that is already there. the problem is I don't want to change the language of the rest of joomla, because I don't know danish, but the website will be in danish. Is there any way to do this?
Right now if I only change that folder, nothing shows in vm. It shows like there are no text on the buttons, on the menus etc.
Later edit: I actually just changed the name of danish.php to english.php, and now it works perfect.

Hi

It is completely my fault.
I copy "language" dir to "components\com_virtuemart" istead "administrator\components\com_virtuemart\".
It is foolish mistake, but maybe anybody repeat it. Be more attentive! :)
Thank you thank you thank you!

Hello. I have some problem with russian translation.
I've installed Joomla!'s russian language both for frontend and backend and also installed language pack for VirtueMart 1.1.4. VirtueMart Language Manager and Joomla! Language Manager say that current language is russian. Though there is some untranslated part on frontend (e.g. "Login Form", "VirtueMart Manufacturers", ...). I can't understand this because there is field in administrator/language/ru-RU/ru-RU.com_modules.ini named LOGIN FORM. And it contains correct translation for "Login Form", though (as far as I can see) administrator/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_modules.ini file used instead.
Could you help me with this?

Hello All,
I've have installed Joomfish with the Chinese Language font pack and have the translations working fine with the Joomla core. However, I don't have them working in the VM shop and don't see where I can input, update translations here.
What I want to accomplish is:1. Translate all categories in my VM shop
2. Translate buttons and other features that give call to actions.
I FTP uploaded the unzipped "Languages" folder from the "Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.4.zip file package directly to my com_virtuemart folder using FileZilla.
Question:1. How do I get the translations working for my Joom 1.5.22 site with VM 1.1.6 stable working for my VM store categories, products and other features?
-
Hello
You must download a content element description file. You can get this from Joomfish.

Hello!
I have done and checked each and every step from this topic.
I have:
Joomla! 1.5.22
VirtueMart 1.1.7a
Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.0.15
These do not work together, right?
First of all. In the very first post in this topic Pisu (thanks man!) show how to extract and copy the "languages" folder to administrator/components/com_virtuemart/
But in this version there is already folder called "languages"! So I use my own brains and I copy just the finnish.php (I want Finnish language) to this administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages folder. Then I upload.
Nothing, english remains like with so many others here too :)
Then somebody in this same topic said that this same finnish.php file should also be copied to each and every folder I can find inside administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages.
Sounds grazy but I dot it. Then I get this error message in the front end:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class vmLanguage in /home/catchlinef/domains/catchline.fi/public_html/joomlatest/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/common/finnish.php on line 1879
So i guess we have to wait for a new language pack for VM 1.1.7a and then a decent step-by-step guide. So sad that new users like me have to spend 2-3 hours untill we give up and think it´s about uncompatible versions.
In fact it can be seen from the download-page
http://virtuemart.net/downloads
that there is no language files but only to VirtueMart 1.0.15!
-
pekizz you should use Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.4.zip from http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files.
This has been already mentioned in this forum, eg http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=78833.msg265400#msg265400
Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.0.15 is for a previous VirtueMart version.

i was telling to GOD: help me, help me,help me plz ... then he gaved to me the way that i should follow, thanks to god and every one that helped here.
if you have a question mark ?? ???? ?? ? or the arabic files are installed but the content is in english read this
here you have how did virtuemart worked for me in arabic :
first of all make a backup plz (using akebaa backup).
problem1:
arabic files are installed but the content is in english or default language:
you should change the uppercase to lowercase here administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages/, that s means change Arabic to arabic.
now it should work if not then you should have question marks ?? ?? ???? ? ,so continue reading...
problem2:
all my site show question marks ????? ?? ?? including joomfish translations ,that s means virtuemart and joomfish translations are showing ? ?? ?? ?? .
you should make sure that collation in mysql is utf8 general ci
if not then there is 2 methods
method1- before that you instal a new joomla site or a backup creat the mysql database that you will use and change his parametres to utf8 general ci ,then instal...
method2- if you already have the site working and it s big, use "phoca changing collation tools" it s free ,but it may break your site ,so doing a backup before is obligatory.
method3-this method is better than method2- make a backup with akebaa then reinstal the backup file and when you are in instalation windows of akebaa chose "force utf8" .and it s done.
problem3:
now the joomfish translations are working good but virtuemart translation are still in ? ?? ?? ??.
this was happening to me only online, in localhost it was working fine then when i uploaded the files to online the arabic was changed to ???????.
i downloaded the arabic virtuemart files from here
http://joomlarab.net/extensions/new-components/372-Virtumart-1-6-6.html
then i didnt instal it i just copied the language files and past it in the mine (v1.1. 8 )
i changed Arabic to arabic following this nice forum.
then this is the solution for the problem3
the arabic files are saved in utf8, then i changed them into utf-8 without BOM , and that s was the solution. thanks to GOD.
to do that don t use the normal notepad, instead use notepad++ it s free and the best tool for working with html and css.whene you download it open the arabic.php file in notpad++ ,click encoding, click convert to utf-8 without bom ,then save.
that s all
i hope this can help non arabic too.
