Description:
two Bugs:
1. No emails received after placing order, neither customer nor seller emails
2. Frequently when adding a product to the basket and then selecting the basket option in the popup window, leads to the basket window which informas that the basket is empty , although it showed up in the basket of the the virtuemart module.

1. Can not duplicate, both customer and store owner receive email notification.
2. Don't know what you mean by frequently or how may products, I just added 5 products as fast as I could, couldn't duplicate your issue.
Frequently:
I mean that very often, when I add a single product to the basket, then, in a second step, I call up the basket, there is the selected product there, BUT
when I then click on "Order" I am on page which says "Your Basket is empty". It's perhaps also relevant (?) that I have at that point, not logged on as a customer.
As for emails, still none received.

Brief update:
I've just updated to Nightly build VirtueMart 1.1 revision 1311 and changed all emails and I still get no emails when placing an order. I also changed the order status in the background with notification to customer switched on and got no email, although it shows it as sent.
It should be server issue or Joomla, check mail settings in Joomla configuration, try to register using Joomla registration module if you don't receive anything than you know is not a VM issue.

The email thing seems to be resolved and I suspect it was something to do with my email addresses. So sorry about that.
The other issue of the basket not retaining a selection when wanting to place an order, appears to have something to do with the shift (in my configuration) from the unsecure http//: address to the https//: covering the purchasing procedure.
I have raised this as a formal bug.
