Some needed cosmetic changes to shipping page.
Design consistency between shipping module (see image)
Move VirtueMart logo to bottom of page - in Joomla 1.5 is OK
Remove redundant 'Shipping Method' wording and 'Price'
If possible add shipping logo (for example see next image)

I agree, consistency is the key here. I think your suggested layout works well, of course there would also need to be the radio buttons on the lefthand side.
With your example would alternative shipping companies be listed directly below the table or in a table of their own? I think all in one long table would be ideal with the little logos as you have them.
Is there any way that you can take the focus off an option so the user has to select a shipping method.
I am having people just continue through checkout and then pull out because they have chosen courier which is $29.00 , not the best if your buying a $3.00 item in the same state.
