As the title says, what are the simplest ways to duplicate a product, so that the copy includes all the custom fields?

Yes, clone the product. The new product is a complete copy except for the ID but is unpublished.
Oh... I forgot to mention that I tried it with products that contain custom fields from 3rd party extensions (breakdesigns customfields4all). They don't seem to be copied over to the cloned product.

Yes you got it right, that's how it works.

There is a already a fix for that.
