ive set up virtue mart for the first time and done a test purchase then cancelled the order and issued a refund and since then ive received 9 emails saying order received and 9 emails saying order cancelled with a pdf attached
do you know how i can rectify this thanks
now upto 12 emails in just over 2 hours since the order was cancelled in my website backend

Unfortunately, your description of the issue is useless
To little information.
Check your configuration -> email settings.
Check Your settings in Your payment processor, might have something to do with updating order status from extarnal link.

i set up virtuemart yesterday for the first time and got somebody to make a purchase.
Since then i have received a email from virtuemart saying confirmed order a total of 33 times as pictured in the photo i then cancelled the order and i received 33 more emails saying cancelled
Obviousley i only should receive 1 email per order ????

I think that You have not allowed PayPal to refund the order through IPN.
Check your settings in the paypal payment method.

im still gettingg emails and in the order section in virtuemart its issuing new invoice numbers at side of each email the images attached are what i see in virtuemart

I would not use confirmed as a status for pending transactions.

ive just noticed this section of emails could one of these settings be causing the emails to be sent

Yes of course, that is what is there for. But You should not get repeated IPN from PayPal unless the update of status from PayPal is misconfigured. If PayPAl can not update order status properly or does not get a correct answer it tries, again and again and again ...
