Good Day All,
I have set up a little demo website as a sort of sandbox to try to get to grips with VirtueMart.
I have added some sample dummy products and some sample descriptions and images.
If you click on a Category (like baked beans, or french fries), the cartegory description appears at the top of the page.
However, I would also like for a short category description to be visible in the Top Level Category Layout either under the category name or under the category image.
If this is possible within VirtueMart, how do I get the category descriptions to appear under or next to each category (on the home page that shows all of the categories).
Here is a link to the demo website, running Joomla 3.9.1.9 and VirtueMart VirtueMart 3.8.2 10325.

Many thanks in advance for any help that anyone can offer here.
Vinny

Jörgen, thank you for your help with this.
I wonder if you could help a little further.
I have attached a screenshot showing what's going on.
Already enabled description for category, doesn't seem to want to show description when the categories are shown on the same page as each other.
I hope my screenshots make sense now.
Thanks
Vinny
Then you have to create an override and edit your categories file in templates.
Category description can usually be very long and would then break the category list display.
