Is there anyway possible to move the position of the custom field from the bottom of the page to the top right. If I change the position from 'normal' to anything else the whole custom field (view apron colours) disappears. Or does it always display at the bottom. I am using virtuemart v 3.4 and joomla 3.9.6. thank you in advance

Without a live URL for the page it is not possible to say, but usually editing overrides & css will allow what you want. It does look as if you are already using overrides, though. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=108212.0
