I would like to know if it is possible to link a joomla group to a product (or a product to a joomla group) in virtuemart, as to when someone buys a particular product, he gets the particular group added automatically to his account. And then do the same thing with another product and another joomla user group. Is this possible?

Do you mean Joomla user group of VM shopper group? These are different and unrelated groups.
I mean a Joomla user group, not a VM shopper group.
This is possible with a product customfield plugin.
Of course the code do not exist.
You can contact me or VM team support or CJC breakdesign or other well know coder in the forum to do the work.

Maybe ask the developers of this plugin.
