We are using Joomla 3.8.5 German / virtuemart 3.2.12.9708 on PHP7.2.2 and Maria DB10 on Plesk Onyx 17.0.17

After proper installation of Joomla and by the following step installation of virtuemart the message shows up: Installation sucessful
But above the folllowing error message appears:
Warning: Cannot assign an empty string to a string offset in /home/httpd/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/tmp/install_5a8a754243bdf/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/helpers/tableupdater.php on line 204

I wasn't able to find an answer, so I hope somebody can help over here. Thanks for your effort. coldchocolate

This has probabaly with PHP 7.2.2 to do, VM is AFAIK only compatible with PHP 7.0

And Vm is not compatible mysql PDO, check Joomla config and use mysqli
