"Errors in VirtueMart 3.0.12 and Joomla 3.8.2" If you are using VM3.0.12 then it is old probably not PHP7 compatible. Hence the PHP notices/warnings.
Why not clone and install the latest manually and see what else needs doing?

The topic was already solved, I think. He uses an old layout override, which uses and old call to VmHtml. Or his VM is now so old, that it does not has the adjustment for VmHtml.
