I looking for a modul or solution in VM 3 to display in real time info to the users telling them how much they should add to their cart to have the free shipping.

But this modul work only for VM 2
Don't know if this one could work for what you need https://www.daycounts.com/shop/virtuemart-3/bonus-items.htm I'm pretty sure I saw one that did exactly what you need but cant find it now...
But you could simply add a normal HTML module from joomla in the cart displaying an image or text saying... free shipping for orders above X quantity... not that difficult for customers to understand.

its in Greek .. but look at the red writing at the bottom with that cart thing as you add items
e.g. Αγόρασε επιπλέον 51,00 € για να έχεις δωρεάν αποστολή!
means add €51 more to get free shipping - updates as u add items
I could do the same for a VM3 cart module but will charge of course

You are right we developed the module for Joomla 1 and 2.5
Now the module is back it was updated, improved and ajaxified
It will work with Joomla 3.x and Joomla 4.x
