Hello all!!!
VirtueMart 3.0.8 in Joomla 3.4.3
When creating a new product and uploading an image it fails to create its thumbnail. So I use the "replace thumbnail" and I fix the problem.
But when I'm uploading a secondary image product the same thing happens and I cannot use the "replace thumbnail" function because it replaces my main product image.
In Media Files Settings under Configuration all the paths seem correct.
I don't know where else to look.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hi,
I think you have a folder or file rights.(chmod 666 for eg. or sometime this can be set by ftp)
I have to change the rights to which folder?
I checked the image folders within the virtuemart image folder and they are all 755.
I have full access to write and execute.

You have to have a subfolder resized with the correct rights in :
vendor\
product\
manufacturer\
category\
Then check your config YOURSITE/administrator/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=config
TAB templates > Media Files Settings :
Category Media URL : images/stories/virtuemart/category/
Product Media URL : images/stories/virtuemart/product/
Manufacturer Media URL : images/stories/virtuemart/manufacturer/
Vendor Media URL : images/stories/virtuemart/vendor/
this is for images\stories\virtuemart as main ftp folder for images(default settings for virtuemart)

Yes, everything is like you say it is.
The subfolder is there in every folder with 755 rights and the paths in Media Files settings are the virtuemart default paths.
I never moved any folders, renamed or changed paths in config. Still I get no auto generated thumbnails to show.

A stupid question, do you have checked Enable Dynamic Thumbnail Resizing in TAB templates > Media Files Settings ?
Did you solved this problem Estelle? I have the same problem... in front end I see the thumbnail but in the backend no.

Do you mean you don't see the thumbs on the Product Images page for each product?
This is what I see in the product page in the backend, in the front end I can see normally the thumbs.
and when you look at the url to thumb in Admin in Firebug or the source what is it?
Actually the link is to a non existing file... the program seem to create the thumb only of the first image in the folder images/stories/virtuemart/product/resized but not of the others... I see the thumb in frontend because the source of the image is the original one and not the resized. Why this behaviour? I'm missing something? this happen only since few days...thank you.

In aditional images in product view at backoffice, I get error 404 not found, but in front-office, they are there.
Any clues?
Try in medias, to syncrhonise medias and check fro errors.
If you don't seee any error, perhaps you have unset thumbs generation in config.

For Studio 42: the automatic resize is selected. What do you mean with Syncrhonise media?

This happens to me also since update to 3.0.12 however this issue is only seen the first time you upload additional images. Save the product exit and click in it again and youll see the thumbnails in the backend again.
It's not my case, If I exit and re-enter the product the thumbnail still missing.

I had the same strange problem, but only for some thumbs.
After Upgrade the filename was lowercase all.
Eg before update : "Image.jpg" was after "image.jpg"
So i checked the reported virtuemart image having erroson activating debug message on front and edited each image filename and saved it and all worked.
This work when you have only some image with error, else a little renaming function is needed.
I tried to upload images with the name lowercase but I still have the problem.

Try to use only lower case ,number and underscore.
so az01- only,perhaps it's better. I had similar problem because bad chars in image for a customer site.
Not working also with everything lowercase. I noticed that if I create a child and then I clone it to create a second child the thumbnails are created for all images...bho!!! :o

I am also facing this problem. All the folders have reqd permission.
WHen I upload the image, the mail image shows but not the thumbnail. (at the backend also)
I again try Replace Thumbnail. At that time the thumbnail shows up at the backend, but not at front.
After three-four try's does the image and thubmnail show.

Backend thumb points to the correct full size image file, but the actual thumbnail is not generated.
This is only for additional image files.
The primary image file is handled correctly.
The thumb for additional images will be called product.jpg_product, where obviously the _product AFTER the .jpg is not a correct image file extension.
This thumbnail image (backend) IS however generated (corrected) when you view the product detail page in the frontend.
Then it will be suddenly stored to the correct resized folder.

It does not need solving. The thumb is not generated from the full size image until it is first required on the product details page of the frontend.

well i use virtuemart modules, latest products. When i add new products, it does not show thumbnail of them in latest product module.

this is stupid new VM behaviour, till VM 3.0.8 everything was ok, if someone want to rearange order of images by product, he can not do this first time. Has to save product, visit frontpage, comae back...

I am having the same problem, except I'm getting an error message which may help troubleshoot it.
Warning: Img2Thumb NewImgCreate with imagecreatefromstring failed /home/website/public_html/images/stories/virtuemart/product/m_five6.jpg
This warning appears any time I click on a product to edit it.
Virtuemart 3.0.16 on Joomla 3.5.1 Running on Apache 2.4.18 and PHP 5.6.20 with GD enabled.
The thumbnail is not created in the resized folder and no amount of saving, clicking on the product or any other hoopla will solve it. Changed permissions on the resized folder to 777 from 755 but that did not work either.
