I also think this must become a priority for the virtuemart development team. Joomla 3 is said to be mobile-ready and already now I see through Google Analytics an dramatic increase of the number of mobile visitors on my site. Different sources also say that the use of mobile devices will beat the laptop and desktop use for browsing the internet in the year 2014.

You have 20000 billion templates compatible with mobile devices and many applications if you really need that and actually most templates look fine in mobile devices.

Maybe it makes more sense that they start working in it when 3.5 the long term release is out and stable and if im not wrong that won't be until 2014.

Exactly lindapowers, thanks for answering :-)

Joomla3 is not need for a "responsible design" (uahh how I hate this buzz word). The first and latest joomla world conference was in San Franzisko and the LTS j3.5 was postponed for more than a year. We just had the switch to 2.5 and people are still using j1.5.

I think a lot of the confusion is caused because Joomla 3 is presented as "mobile ready and user friendly". It makes a lot of people believe that joomla 2.5 or virtuemart 2 is not suitable (rather ideal) for mobile use.

Milbo, you surely mean "responsive design" - taken as meaning one that responds to a browser window width. Maybe you could like that buzz word...   ;)

I have been building sites using this type of template mainly based on Twitter Bootstrap for some time now using Joomla 2.5 because "mobile friendly" has been specifically requested by the client. It does not need Joomla 3 to do that.  And yes, I can still view & use almost every website I come across on my phone - except those that use stupid MS specific code...

LOL, yes Jenkin. I read the explanation that responsive means the answer time of a page also. Whatever, mobile-ready design would imho much better fit.

The design of Virtuemart and Joomla 2.5 can be made to be responsive when you install the plugin and mobile template from JTouch (http://www.jtouchmobile.com/)

The template contains overrides for Virtuemart to be responsive.

I'm building a joomla 2.5 site with the help of H5BPTB responsive joomla template from Ivan Ramos (http://ivan.ramos.name/en/extensions/86-html5-boilerplate-twitter-bootstrap-joomla-template) as guide. I must say ... it's fun and fast to adapt the templates/template overrides to responsive. Twitter bootstrap has a lot of predefined Css styles you can use.

QuoteH5BPTB (HTML5 Boilerplate + Twitter Bootstrap Joomla Template) is a template for Joomla based on HTML5 Boilerplate and Bootstrap from Twitter.

Features:

Full functional Joomla template ready to install
All featurres of HTML5 and CSS3 from HTML5 Boilerplate
Bootstrap, from Twitter, included by default with topbar navigation and ready to responsive designs
With all Joomla core, components and modules css classes and ids

I'm still busy with the joomla template, but i'll have a go at VM template soon

VirtueMart 3 has support for Joomla 3. ATM this version is in development and only a development version is available (not for live sites!!!)

http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files (version 2.1.1)

Where i can download a beta version for J3.x?
Title: Re: When VirtueMart support JOOMLA3

It is on SVN for experienced developers, http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/repository  or one of the developers has made builds available for less experienced developers and those who want to help debug before releasing to experienced users. http://www.rupostel.com/joomla/hacks/virtuemart-for-joomla-3

Internal testing is taking place and I would expect a public testing release of 2.9 within the next couple of weeks. The more people who test and help fix bugs then the quicker a stable release version will be available.

Edited: VM2.9 is now available for testing on J3.2.x from http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files

Hi,

Is it a forum section for testing 2.9 reports?

I just installed VM 2.9 on 3.2.3 FR test site (PC, local Wampserver, W8).
Firsts tests : "boutique" (in French with 2.6 language package, "Virtuemart" in English) module menu don't deploy submenus (Firefox and Chrome, last versions) and pictures on main VM administration page are not inline but in column.

I did'nt find translations for VM 2.9 in Transifex project (I'm a member of french VM core translation).

Thanks!
Robert

Thanks for moving my previous message!

Creating a menu entry for category layout failed (sample data installed): "Extension attribute is empty in the category field" and no category in category list.

Creating a menu lik to vendor TOS "Strict standards: Declaration of VmTable::getPrimaryKey() should be compatible with JTable::getPrimaryKey(array $keys = Array) in D:\wamp\www\Joomla_3.2.3_French\administrator\components\com_virtuemart\helpers\vmtable.php on line 1698" (PHP 5.4.12). Idem with product details layout.

VM administration semms OK with Hathor template, not with Isis.

Any timeline on releasing VirtueMart 3?

If you want speed up the release date then please get testing the beta versions, latest is 2.9.3 from http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files  and post issues (and fixes if you can) on http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=136.0

The more people that test it the better! The request was in VM news, http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/457-jday-france-2014-vm-2-6-0a-vm-for-joomla-3 , and on twitter - @virtuemart
