Could you please explain it better, i am not sure i understand you. Also please tell us your joomla and vm versions you are using.
May be you mean to work your shop as a catalog? Then you should go to backend Configuration -> Shop and enable the option "Use only as catalogue".

Hi, an example would be this URL:
http://demo.virtuemart.net/index.php/2012-01-13-09-33-20/virtuemart-default-layout/mp3-player/ipod-touch-detail
The user is supposed to click on the URL and a product description page would show up. There wouldn't be features such as image, update qty and add to cart. Just a plain description will do. Is there such a feature in VM?

You have to use a template override for that, without the add-to-cart button. But you want to use it to certain pages or to all your store?

You should create template overrides and select that template to be used for certain products from the back end.
