I developed a plugin that shows shipping cost on Cart and Product Detail's view.
Here in Brazil is commonly used because the customers need to know how much shipping will pay before click in checkout button ( and before inserts address data ).
It's fully integrate with all VM shipping plugins and don't it's a hack, it's a system plugin.
