Thank for sharing.

How shop visitor could be sure what color he picked up:
http://virtuemartcolors.com/demo/wireless-mouse-m2352012-06-14-18-45-06-detail
For example here customer could see checked radio button above choosen color:
https://www.hairextensionsfair.com/shop/full-head-clip-in/pp-straight-16-in-detail

Also image names and tags are absent in layout for your colors, Creologic.

I saw in your extensions duplicate of xml files which could fail installation process in Joomla.

Also why component files have name "vmplus", when on forum, on your web site and in the list of components in backend component name is "vm-color"? What the point of "plus"?

You are right it could of been, it is in beta stage but lack of any kind of documentation makes it impossible to use, specially at the front end, also found a bug in it, if you edit your item (product) and hit save it will remove all the colour options, so you have to add them all over again, also it un publish the colours at random.

I have no problem with beta software and sometimes even love testing and debugging, however I do have a really hard time when user feedback is just ignored, not even acknowledged. Doesn't give me much of a feeling like anybody cares. And I do value who cares.

This is not only true with beta software but with all. Hey guys, you have done good work and there is a bunch of people getting interest in your software and returning valuable feedback and test results. Go on and participate actively here to bring this to a mature product.

Just my 5 cents worth...

What's the best way to contact the developer for support on this?  I mentioned it to a few people on LinkedIn as a possible solution, as they were looking for a color selector, and they've all said they are having trouble getting it working and getting support. :(

Let me know what to advise - thanks!

Title: Re: Product Colors (Component + Plugin)
Post by: adham on October 17, 2012, 23:41:28 PM
Ok I got it sort of working, uninstalled and did another install, assigned a custom field ID (which was never mentioned in the PDF tutorial)  anyway, 2 things first the image you add in the  component is not showing on the front end (uses default VM no image) CSS is all messed up.
After digging around found that using the VM default image custom fields works the same (if not better) again it is all maybe due to the lack of basic explanation to the component.
Maybe it needs a specific custom field type?

Also the component cannot be uninstalled (it just stays there).

update: Some colours still dont want to publish, you have to go in and out few times to make it work, some colours do straight away some dont (All at random)

Hope this helps you "fix" or explain the errors.
Cheers!

1) Uninstall will be fixed.
2) We tell about custom field in PDF manual
3) "Some colours still dont want to publish" - pls give demo

Hi!
Thanks for the reply.
I looked in the PDF file there was no mention of the custom field, not sure if there is another one, I got the one on your website.
Regarding the colour that wont publish, for example I have red in the colour options, on product one it wont publish no matter how many times you click on it, on product 2 it poblish with no problem, very strange lol, but I guess there is a "glitch" somewhere.
Also noticed, that if you delete colours, they wont be removed from the product, they just stay there (even after I go into the product and manually delete them).

Last, it would be great if you can a mouse over tool tip if there is an extra charge for certain colours, it does work and adds the price, but it would be nice if we can let the customer know that there is an extra charge. Also adding a select all button to colour publishing would be great to save time when you have like 100 colours.

Thank for the effort
P. S I can help you make a pdf tutorial if you want.
Cheers!

2 major bugs with your color plugin for virtuemart at the checkout.

Hi!
First let me thank you for your unique solution, it's very useful.

I use it here:
http://funkycyclewear.com/products/men/short-sleeve-jerseys

But there are 2 major bugs with your plugin at the checkout.

The first one:
As you can see in my site I'm also using another Custom Field type: "Cart Variant" for the shirt size.

When I go to the checkout your plugin runs over the shirt's size and it's not visible at the checkout although it is registered at the back office of virtuemart.

The second one:
At the back office of virtuemart I can see that the color of the product purchased is in hexadecimal code and not the color itself.

I would very much appreciate if you can resolve this bugs.

Thank you very much.

Harel.

:)

Trying to achieve something familiar, I came upon this thread. I've installed the component and plugin and got it partially working. Just like some others have had in this thread, the images don't change when selecting a corresponding color (while the price does change!). Did anyone solve this already?
I've emailed the developer(s), but didn't get any reaction yet. Too bad, because this extension seems really promissing and exactly what we need.

Besides the image-change-problem, would it be possible to add an 'alt-text' and/or 'title' to each color? And I'm wondering if we could adjust this extension so that we could use it for sizes also, like in this example: http://www.tricorp.com/?catalogcategory/12120472772383/T145.aspx&catalog=5

Still trying to get this working...

When selecting a color, the image still doesn't show. Firebug shows this error:
QuoteFout: TypeError: jsdb[id_chekbox] is undefined

This is referring to:
var jsdb = {"138":["images\/stories\/virtuemart\/product\/t145-yellow.jpg"]};
function setColor(id_chekbox, pr_id, customprice, arraykey) {
document.getElementsByName(customprice)[0].value=id_chekbox;
if (!(typeof Virtuemart !== "undefined" && Virtuemart)) {
Virtuemart = jQuery;
}

Virtuemart.setproducttype(jQuery("form.js-recalculate"),pr_id);

for (var i = 0; i < arraykey.length; i++)
{
document.getElementById('vmcolora'+arraykey[i]).className='color_system';
}
document.getElementById('vmcolora'+id_chekbox).className='color_system color_system_activ';
//alert(jsdb[id_chekbox].length);
//alert(jsdb[id_chekbox][jsdb[id_chekbox].length-1]);

if(jsdb[id_chekbox][jsdb[id_chekbox].length-1])
{
document.getElementById('medium-image').src="/"+jsdb[id_chekbox][jsdb[id_chekbox].length-1];
}
}
jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
$("a .color_system_activ").click();
});

The developer of this component still didn't reply to any of my messages, and since 2 days his website is down. I guess I'm not going to get a reaction anymore...
So please, can anyone here tell me how to adjust this javascriptcode so it will work properly? Thanks.

Yes, it looks good, but I couldn't get this working correctly either, see reply #29.
I've emailed the developer a few times, but got no reply. And now the developer's website is down since a couple of days, so I'm afraid we're not going to get any answers for this...
Too bad, because it really looked good.
The only thing I can tell you, is follow the manual and have a look at the LinkedIn-thread: http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Product-color-selection-VM2012b-Joomla-811237.S.174371665

This looks nice. Good work, but
1) in confirmation e-mail dont display color - display Color Hex code like #d43ed4
2) what happen if we have more then 100 colors? We need dropdown with color for each row of dropdown menu.
3) there is option to add price for some colors, but don't display price only calculate final price.
4) dont display Color Name
5) I dont need but other people here want option to change product picture when choose a color.

If Product Colors (Component + Plugin) is open sorce it will be nice someone to improve this Component + Plugin

Virtuemart (Component would be enaff) is open source too and it will be nice if someone will just use this Component for working with Product Colors stuff.

What's the problem?

Anybody could select picture on product administration web page.

This picture could be personal color of current product.

And, no, I don't mean using standard product images.

This is useless... color based on images. There is better plugin, based on RGB color code. Search it in forum or JED.
Both of them are useless because they dont support colors in drop down menu, and what happen if we have 10+ colors
