Dear VirtueMart community,
I have a little site I am working on through Joomla Version 1.5.23 with VirtueMart Version 1.1.8 (stable).
Since I like the shop to be in English and German I have downloaded the language pack "Language_Pack_for_VirtueMart_1.1.zip" from here:
http://virtuemart.de/download/file/12-sprachpaket-fuer-virtuemart and added the german.php and germani.php to here: "/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/languages" in the corresponding folders.
Since I am using Joom!fish for the other translations I am now wondering how to tell the shop to use the English and German language files.
If someone could help me with the following questions or at least point me to a documentation or useful links about switching languages in VirtueMart on one site that would be most appreciated.
There are my questions.
- Have I actually used the right language pack or do I need to download a more recent one from somewhere else? If so where should I get the latest language pack please?
- What is the difference between german.php and germani.php? Do I need both or just one for plain standard German, DE, CH and AT?
- How do I tell the shop to call the corresponding languages? For example if a user sets the site language to English (both German and English are also installed in the Joomla admin directory) how do I tell the shop to also appear in English rather than German?
- So far I am doing my translations for the German content with Joom!fish. Can this also be done with VirtueMart or do I need to apply another method here? I would assume so but not sure.
Last not least I would like to add that I am not a novice considering coding and web dev but a first time user with Joomla and VirtueMart. So far I have been mostly doing xhtml, js and css and a bit of java. Since the official documentation does not cover switching languages
http://virtuemart.net/documentation/User_Manual/index.html I would be very happy about help with my questions or at least links to where I can learn about it.
Thanks for your time and efforts.
Your informative reply will be highly appreciated and no I don't expect you to do the work for me, but simply guide me in the right direction. Thanks so much!
