Now I'm trying  to customize the homesite of the site. I want to show only selected categories or a specific numbers of the categories on the homesite. How can I do that?

this might do the trick

its a module that will show the cats in a grid, but you can exclude cats you do not want to show, and you can layout horizontal or vertical
