Great thread, a lot of help!  Just to note, I didn't catch if this comes up further down the thread, but I found out the hard way that if you're using a theme, other than the default VM theme, then you have to find that PHP file through that directory, not Default; otherwise nothing will happen and you're left wondering why.

Thanks again!

G'day,

I hate those captcha things, so I just changed the clicky to a mailto: url and let the greylisting/spamhaus filter deal with it.

Thank you!! This works perfectly for me.  Does anyone know how to change the theme to "clear" recaptcha (from the red theme)?

Thank you much!!!

I changed the "name" and "email" text to imaages on shop.ask and it reduced a lot of spam.

The bots dont know what to put where

just dont name the image "email.jpg" etc. bots see that. It is not user friendly for people with disabilities, but captcha drives people crazy.

I do like this, not had much spam to date, but its always better to air on the side of caution.

One thing I noted whilst testing....

It's not terribly user friendly. For example if I were to type a long question in and then get the captcha wrong it clears your question / text. this could be quite frustrating.

Is there a way to keep the form data until you have successfully input the captcha code ?
