Ah, I see. What you can use is something called MetaMod. It's a free J! module that allows you to publish or unpublish other modules based on any php factors you wish to program. MetaTempale can also do the same, but executes on a higher level... I prefer to do everything on MetaTemplate now.
metamod should be installed to virtuemart core and be followed by any upgrade!  I didnt tested yet but i ll soon. Thx for the share

Hey

Maybe I'm missing something but in my installation of module there's no "Other Parameteres" tab. How it may happen? Would like to use flyout version but simply can't enable it as there's no such option Sad

thanks in advance!

Hi Forest,
I know your mod is designed for menus but could it work in a category display page? You see i am building a schoolwear site and when visitors click on branded clothes sub category i want to be able to show all the unbranded categories after the branded category the visitor clicked, have been displayed.

My shop is organised like so:

BRANDED PRODUCTS PARENT CATEGORY 1
  SUB CATEGORY 1A
  SUB CATEGORY 1B
  SUB CATEGORY 1C

UNBRANDED PRODUCT PARENT CATEGORY 2
  SUB CATEGORY 2A
  SUB CATEGORY 2B
  SUB CATEGORY 2C

Whenever a person clicks on ANY of the SUB categories 1A, 1B, 1C i want to be able to show ALL of the sub categories 2A,2B,2C. I'm not bothered about the products, its just the category display that i am worried about.

The idea is that whenever someone looks at branded products, then i want to be able to show the unbrabded product categories also.

I look forward to your reply.

Hi Forrest,

Thanks for this great mod! I have version 2.7.0.

I'm working on a site that has roughly 600 categories, arranged in 4 main categories, with about 5 or 6 2nd level categories in each main category and the rest in 3rd, 4th or 5th level sub-categories. There are no products in the main categories or even the 2nd level categories. Products are only in the bottom levels and that will vary from the 3rd to 5th level.

Not all of the bottom sub-categories will have products in them all of the time, so it would be WAY easier to not show empty product sub-categories than to go through and unpublish them. However I do see a lot on this subject within the VM forum, so realize it may not be an easy thing. Can this be done within vm_cat_menu_specific? I am pretty familiar with VM and can hack the code with a little direction.

It seems some VM category mods have this feature and there were some topics on this a few years back, so I guess it can be done, but I can't figure out how to apply his hacks to your mod. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=40894.0

I was going to ask a different question, so attached my settings, but I'm going to try some other things before I ask that question.

Thank you!

I am working with a site that was set up by a programmer. I am not a programmer. I know just enough to be dangerous.

I am working with the parameters of what I believe is this same module. My screen looks similar to the screenshot at the beginning of this thread, just in a different order.

I am having trouble getting the categories to show in the left side navigation on my site without showing all of the individual products within the categories. I have attached pictures of what it looks like when you open the page. The "Maggie Bags Categories" heading shows, but you have to click on it to expand the menu and show the categories.

I want it to be open, as in the second picture, when the page first loads.

I have also attached a screenshot of my current settings. More below this post.

Can anyone help? I'm sure it's a simple fix in the parameters, but I don't want to go too far without knowing what I'm doing.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

More Attachments. Apparently I'm not good at forums, either.

Hi mgrigsby, If you do not want your products to show in the menu set "show Products as Menu Items" to No instead of yes.

It should have. You may have needed to CLEAR YOUR BROWSER AND J! CACHE?

@werkin: If I understand you right, all you need to do with my hack is play with the starting id's or start/stop levels. This will only alter the menu display though... not other aspects of VM (like breadcrubs, etc).

@umeeshh: no idea what happened. Maybe try an uninstall and reinstall. This is only for J1.5, not any other Joomla version. I have not had any other complaint like this, so it must be something unique to your setup.

Hi,

I guess you misunderstood my question. Sorry. To put it more simply, I want to know if you could help me with a hack to automatically hide any of the bottom level categories if they are empty. If a parent category has sub-categories, it should only be hidden if NONE of the subcategories have products in them.

We have way to may categories to do this manually.

Thank for any help you can give me with this!
