I have been advised that GoDaddy in their almighty wisdom have made a change on their servers so that they work with Joomla 1.6 for anyone who tries to install it - but this totally screws Joomla 1.5 backend functions.

In the site root directory they have placed a php5.ini file which can be renamed (or deleted). That apparently fixes the admin url isues.
