Hello,
i've made billions of testes and VM continues to select the wrong (and lowest) shipping rate when added something in the cart.

It seems like VM can't see any shipping rate than the lowest shipping rate:

1) I've create an item of 4 gr
2) I created some shipping rates:

a) 0-20gr
b) 21-50gr

3) I added 6 items in the basket ( 4gr X 6 items = 24gr)

VM now should select the b) shipping rate (from 21gr to 50gr), because 24 "falls" in the b) range.

...but when I go to the Checkout, the shipping rate choosen is ALWAYS the LOWEST.

WHY?!!?

I've also tried to create shipping rates in the order of 0.0201-0.050 instead of 20-50, but it's always the same thing: VM chooses the LOWEST shipping rate.

Any help?

I'm losing a big customer for this stupid thing (and the website is pratically ALL-DONE!)

Please save me!
Fabio

I've solved simply specifing grams or pounds instead of keeping it empty in every object sold.

Let me know if also for you works!

Ok, I erased all products, created new ones and specified grams and even milimeters for all products. Then I created shipping costs like from 1g - 1000g - X amount, 1001-2000g Y amount, etc. But still it's always the same thing: VM chooses the lowest shipping rate. I'm totally clueless...

have you assigned a country/more countries to every shipping rate?

have you assigned a country for the user who you're making the checkout?

Be sure to add a weight specification ("grams" or "pounds" without the ") for every product.

Yes, country is assigned at shipping rates. When a new user is registering, selecting his/her country is mandatory, so I checked in the backend under VM Admin users, and there it is also. When creating new products, grams and milimeters are added automatically by vm. It's freaking me out.

mhmhm..I solved simply making little steps, after a new installation of joomla and VM. After installed everything ok with Joomla use the JoomlaPack component and backup everything, then install VM and create simply 2-3 shipping rates, being sure to fill the fields sizes, weight, grams or pounds.

First, I'd like to thank you for trying to help me. I think I got a clue on where the source of the problem is. In the product details the format of the numbers for the weight is 1.0000 with four decimals (if for example the weight of a product is 1 grams.) At the shipping rates on the other hand it is 1.000 (with only three). And this is where it gets tricky, because when I enter 1 for 1 grams, after saving it turns to 1.000 and it's like vm thinks it's actually 1000 and not 1.

A world without money, and power, where you can do a thing for the pleasure to help anyone simply for free is the world I've in mind. ..and before or then, it will become reality, i'm sure of it! Wink

Mhmh..about the 3 zeros and 4 zeros, finally have you solved or not? However I didn't care about it, I simply inserted "int" numbers (like 1, 2 ,3 ecc) and let VM makes the rest.

I did it finally, and it seems my clue was good! Smiley It looks like the shipping rate in the standard shipping module does not calculate in grams, but rather in kilograms. So I created the lowest rate which is in my case from 1g to 1kg as:

from 0.001
to 0.999

Then the second one, which in my case is from 1Kg to 2Kg as from 1 to 1.999(when saved it shows 1.000 to 1.999). So in my opinion this is what tricks most users, because normally if you would want a rate from 1g to 2g you'd enter from 1 to 2, but after saved it'll turn to 1.000 to 2.000, and that's actually not 1g to 2g, but rather 1kg to 2kg. I hope this is somewhat understandable, and that it might help others as well.

Oh a word meaning manure yes, I missed to say it, sorry!

I've solved also adding weights in KG instead of grams!!

Fabio

EDIT: The weight of the shipping rate must be inserted in KG, instead the weight of the product must be inserted in grams.

For example: I've a product that weights 4 grams, i must insert into the Product Dimension and Weight the value: 4 (and when it is save it switches to 4.0000).

Instead if I have a shipping rate that weights:

2 gr ..i must insert into the Shipping Rate 0.002 (it's specified in KG)
25 gr ..i must insert into the Shipping Rate 0.025 (it's specified in KG)
250 gr ..i must insert into the Shipping Rate 0.250 (it's specified in KG)
1000 gr ..i must insert into the Shipping Rate 1.000 (it's specified in KG)
1999 gr ..i must insert into the Shipping Rate 1.999 (it's specified in KG)

..and so on!

Thanks for both of you also from me !!!

Specially NeroInferno who tell us a very important thing: " The weight of the shipping rate must be inserted in KG, instead the weight of the product must be inserted in grams " , and also suggested us not to forget to define units.

Now... How can I define units globally, so virtuemart fill them automatically in all products, without the need to fill them individually for each product ?

In my opinion, Open Source has many and many advantages but sometimes lead us to get crazy investigating and seeing how put things in rail !!! But... This is exiting too (if we are not conditioned in time to terminate an On-line Commerce web site which must be deliver to a client waiting to see his site done and working !!!

Thanks to all again,

Miguel Garcia
