I would like to sell photos from my shop that can be downloaded once they have been paid for. I use V1.0.14 Stable. I have read the documentation & think that it can be done. I have not seen this feature in action so I am not sure how it works, or what it looks like in action. I have set 1 product up but when I try & process an order for it I am told to select a shipping method, yet no shipping method is displayed. Can anyone please tell me how to correctly implement this feature, or can they direct me to some detailed explanation that I can study? Thank you.

To setup downloadable product:
1: Go to your site directory - for your site and create a folder called for instance download  - this should be outside your root (public_html)
2: Go to Configuration - Download tab and enable downloads
3: While on Download tab - enter path to your folder: /sitename/download/ (don't forget the slash afterwards.
4: Go to Products and Create your product.
5: Go to your Product List - click on the Media for your product (look in the media column - another window pops up.
6: In File Manager - Click NEW
7: Change File Type - to Downloadable Product File
8: Either browse for your file - or if you had FTP'ed the file - select it.
9: Click Save
10: Go test your download -by entering a test order at your website.  It should send you an email for the order.
11: Once your order is entered - go to the Order List - and change the Order to Confirmed -Notify Customer and press Update.
12: You should receive an email with a Download link.
13: Click the link - save the file to your hard drive - then open it to verify it downloaded completely.
14: If link email was never received - go back into the Order (in the back end) - open it up- go to the bottom where the product is listed and click resend order. If you do not see a link to resend order - your product did not link as a download - and you have to repeat the steps.

I'm trolling this info. This info should be included step-by-step as a Help file / page rather buried in the forum!

To setup downloadable product:(...)
5: Go to your Product List - click on the Media for your product (look in the media column - another window pops up.

What is missing in my installation, if I don't have this Media Column?
And where can I find it?

Thanks!

Very detailed and useful instruction! This will definitly be used for my store. But:

To setup downloadable product: (...)
5: Go to your Product List - click on the Media for your product (look in the media column - another window pops up.

No such column exists in my installation. Please provide us with a detailed description how to activate this media column.

I have an additional question. Can I assign different files for different properties? I plan to sell music I've written, and I plan to have a few models to choose from: Casual, Producer, or Commercial. Each model with it's own qualities.

When you click list products then you click your product, then in left pane it says "Add Image/File" just under Add Product. in the dropdown menu where it says aditional image...click there. thats what she meant for Media... i think... anyway thats how i do it.
