I noticed that sh404sef has problems when a category has multiple pages. The links of the different pages have problems and it's impossibile to return to first page. Does somebody know if there is a patch for this problem?
Thanks in advance

No one has reported this problem with serrbizsef.

By multiple pages you mean sub categories? If not an example would be nice.

He means that when you click on a Category, say "Electric Guitars" at my website (http://guitarhangar.com) , that you can't click on the first page again after selecting another page of items when sh404SEF is enabled.

A walkthrough (go to my website or any other running Joomla/VM/sh404SEF)

Click "Electric Guitars"
Wait for load
Click "2" (to go to second page, this is controlled by ProductScroller)
Then click "1"
You will see page 2 reload.

If you manually hardcode all your categories to redirect to Electric-Guitars/Page-1.html instead of Electric-Guitars.html, the product scroller works. Now- that is a total pain in the ass, but thats what seems to be the solution at this point. I posted this in the sh404sef boards and I'm hoping that they will add a feature to the next update that will allow you to create Page-1 on default instead of Page 1 being the name of the category.

You can get into a blame game whenever you have multiple components working together, but I have a feeling the Joomla Core ProductScroller needs to be looked at by their team, as it is a utility class. I think VM is doing everything correct that it can, but Joomla is trumping it. Its not a "VM issue" since VM doesn't even control that part of the product browsing GUI.

I would however like to see Ascending/Descending fixed Wink How come you can get order by to hold straight and not Ascending/Descending? Smiley

(I think I know but...you know)

Hi All,

This has been fixed as much as can be, and has been available for testing in dev version for a couple of weeks, from our download area at http://download.siliana.net. The only problem left out so far is the "number of items per page" select list. I have made this possible, but not by default, as it would require every single URL to be like .../Page-2-10.html, .../Page-3-10.html if viewing 10 items per page, and .../Page-2-30.html, .../Page-3-30.html when viewing 30 items at a time. That would increase largely the number of URL in the DB for little more convenience for the user I think. I am not sure VM handles this correctly anyway.

Initially, these issues arose because sh404SEF was a little bit too ambitous probably, and tried to do with VM what it does with regular content, that is identify the first link in a page nav, and then link that to category name (for instance), so as to avoid duplicate content between site.com/shop/bicycles/ and site.com/shop/bicycles/Page-1.html.
Again, that works fine for regular content, but unfortunately VM adds keyword=xx&orderby=xx to all links, instead of relying on default value stored in session as Joomla does, and that breaks everything, making duplicate content unavoidable, apart from adding a nofollow link to the first page navigation item, which I will do, time permitting, using the shCUstomTags module, so as to avoid needing to hack Virtuemart, as serbiz does.

Regards

I've noticed that sh404sef has released a new version as of the 17th of November. I'm going to give it a whirl on my development server and I'll let you all know how it works with the VM.

Yep! New version of sh404sef fixes this problem. You *might* want to hold off on updating for 2-3 days however, since I got a reply on the sh404sef boards saying that there will be another new version posted that will add an option that will fix the "Products Per Page" option.

Patiently waiting for VM 1.x Smiley

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in sh404SEF. A pre-release has been available for a little while now (which fixes this, as well as other things and a few new features). It is available from http://download.siliana.net, in Test versions category. You may want to give it a try first on test server if possible, but it should be pretty OK

Regards

I also have trouble with the issue - trying the newest sh404 TEST-version didn't help.
What could help, however, would be simply disabling the pagination part (like keyword or orderby)

The URL could look like SHOP/CATEGORY.html?keyword=0&orderby=product_name&limitstart=XX

I tried to disable the pagination at /components/com_sef/sef_ext/com_virtuemart.php but failed.
How do I do this?

If you want to turn off VM's "Page Browser" uncheck the following in the VM Config:

"Show Page Navigation at the Top of the Product Listing?"

..and make sure in sh404sef that you have the following:

"Activate Multipage Smart Titles?" to yes under Content configuration. (I had this selected, its not VM specific but can't hurt)
Underneath "Languages" make sure that underneath every language you support, something like the following is present:

"Page-%s"

Clear your cache after making those changes. That should help, I was having problems until I activated Multipage smart titles, I'm not sure why though.

Also, sh404sef is pretty kickass. The security component alone , let alone the SEO, is what makes sh404sef great. It really helps to protect you against email-harvesters, malicious bots, and SQL injection attacks.

Hope that helps!

Thanks gtrhangar,

Unfortunately, this doesn't help (I had these settings already). Still excatly the same issue (and I've tried these sh404 TEST-versions: com_sh404SEF_Version_1.3.1_TEST_PR_build_250.joomla.zip and com_sh404SEF_Version_1.3.1_TEST_PR_build_255.joomla.zip).

Isn't it simply possible to disable the pagination like it's done with the keywords and the sorting order?

Like SHOP/CATEGORY.html?keyword=0&orderby=product_name&limitstart=XX

This would certainly help a lot.
Many thanks!

Shumisha, the developer of sh404 helped a lot to solve this problem by suggesting to deleting the following lines in the sh404-VM-plugin:

Code:
shRemoveFromGETVarsList('limit');
shRemoveFromGETVarsList('limitstart');

This will disable the URL translation of the pagination and result in URL's like this (please have a look at it): meinpiercing.de/intimpiercings.html

It is not nice but it works and that's essential. Thank you, Shumisha!

BTW, it's a Joomla 1.0.15 and the latest nightly build of the VM 1.1
