Is this going to be the component for Mambo? Or is VM going strictly with Joomla? I ask because with both going separate directions is VM going to continue to develop for  Mambo or just Joomla? Right now I have installed VM with Mambo 4.62 and it works, but I have not fully tested it. I can see a few minor problems, but so far all easy fixes.

If the developers do not want to, or have time to take it on, would they be opposed to an offshoot of a Mambo version? If so are there any developers willing to take on the project?

Just though I would ask, I currently have setup multiple sites with either Joomla, or Mambo and VM, to be honest I see them both equal right now and have no idea who will eventually put out the best CMS.

As I plan for future development what will my best choice be?

Thanks for the thoughts on this.

I have the same reservations about using virtuemart. And have been following this post but none of the developers seem to be in a mood to reply

Look I just found out that Joomla is cracking down on licencing and soon will force VM to comply or stop distributing it. They stopped SMF from allowing development of a bridge for Joomla. They are getting greedy and ridiculous in the licencing policies.

As a matter of fact, VM is running SMF illegally according to the new policies, and joomla also runs SMF forums, go figure. I suggest we abandon Joomla all together and go with mambo, please I am begging you, Joomla is in it for one reason only, MONEY! Change the development to primarily Mambo!

Yes you are right about joomla SMF

i have moved over to Mambo for one of my installs where SMF is bridged...

I do have a question.. has anybody got Mambo bridged with SMF working with VM?

i am up for helping test any betas, but my coding is very limited

I do. www.dimestoreproductions.com

I have a large number of components working on Mambo after switching from Joomla.

I am worried about Virtuemart and scared to update to latest - I'm running .12 Don't want to mess up a working store.

Keeping my eyes open and ears out on Mambo development...I'm done with Joomla.

Hi, I am kind of confused by this question. As I understand it, Joomla is the newer version of Mambo. Am I wrong here?
I recommend checking out  Joomla Ecommerce edition, which is Joomla bundled with Virtuemart already installed. It takes a lot of the pain out of installing the Virtuemart component, modules and mambots. You can download it from Virtuemart.net. It works right out of the box and takes a lot of the pain out of installing the Virtuemart component, modules and mambots.

Watch my Step-By-Step video tutorial to help you get going with Joomla + Virtuemart

Best Regards,

There are dozens of component developers who have left Joomla and returned to Mambo, due to the licensing thing that went on over the past 6 whatever months. Uh, You can research THAT on your own. Suffice to say, Mambo has seen much resurgence, it was never DEAD after the Joomla fork, wounded, yes, but the developers have returned to it, and it's moving forward now.

There's a new fork in Virtuemart in development for Mambo from what I understand, called Supamart. Not open to the public yet though. Looking forward to that, but have been fine with Vitruemart on Mambo for now.

It does not help that the primary developer of VM is part of the Joomla team as well. I know he has had numerous disagreements with them, but he sticks with them. I am gld to hear that someone is working on a solution for Mambo. I belive Mambo is going in a better direction IMO, but that's me  Grin

It is sad that the direction of this component is unclear. As if Virtuemart was not hard enough to use as it is.

I disagree, VM is very simple to use, I just hope it continues in a mambo direction also
