I have installed VirtueMart 1.0.12 and it appears to me in English language by defect, as I can change the language to the Spanish?

Yes, you can. All you have to do is download the spanish language from the downloads section and copy the file to the administrator/components/com_virtualmarket/.../languages folders.

Pues eso, que te bajes el fichero de la sección de descargas, y lo copies al directorio que te digo. A partir de entonces si en la configuración de joomla tienes puesto el lenguaje español, te tomará el contenido del fichero spanish.php.

Eso si, no esta muy bien traducido, hay que retocarlo un poco.
