How can I print barcodes for my products? Has anyone done this? Can you give me a tip on how to start?

When I add a product I would like Virtuemart to generate a barcode. I would like to print this barcode (and some other information) on a very small label which I can attach to the products.

I would appreciate some feedback on how I can get started. TIA!

Hello,

What do you plan to do with the barcodes?  I.e., do you have an existing system - outside of VirtueMart - to make use of them?  For example, barcodes are typically used with a packing system to help ensure order accuracy.

But VirtueMart doesn't offer anything like that, so that's why I ask what you plan to do with them.

Myself, I'm using StoneEdge Order Manager (www.StoneEdge.com), and have integrated it with VirtueMart.  With this, StoneEdge provides all the features that VM currently lacks - including barcode support (prints labels, and you can scan labels during pack & ship procedure).  Orders and products get automatically exported to StoneEdge, and status updates (including tracking numbers in my modified version of VM) get sent back to VM.

I plan to release my StoneEdge integration in the near future...

Anyway, post some more details on how you want things to work.

Hello Mike, is your joomla/StoneEdge Order Manager integration available?

Why did you choose StoneEdge for generating barcodes and manging your products?  Is there a product list or review link you can send me that shows why this is a good product?

I just looked at the prices.  Wow $1500.  I certainly look forward to the day I can afford that.  But since I am just starting out is their a cheaper solution?

Try this: http://extensions.virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=usersListing&uid=3007

It's a whole lot cheaper, about the price of a starbucks coffee.

Edited for correction.

I take that back, it's listed with a free subscription for a year, so that's even better.
