Hi Vlastik! Great tool!

Perhaps it helps me with another issue as well, on your site I read: List All Products => /product_list/   -  can be set up by editing the file

Can you tell me more about this? How to? I am eagerly looking for something like that too!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've followed all the directions in this thread, but I still can't get anything beyond the standard Joomla SEF for VirtueMart. :-(

Does this file work with Joomla 1.0.11 and VirtueMart 1.0.7?

Hi,

Great stuff, works great. Does this also work on Mambo-Php shops and Mambo or is it just Joomla and VM?

hi there,

great tool, but national characters are not replaced, so the URL is not valid and the tool is not possible to  use. Can anybody help? how to solve this problem? How to implement character replacements?

Thank you for replies.

Does the SEF advance SEF option enable search engine spidering at the product level?

Hi Jan,

I'm fairly sure you can edit the code to fix national characters - if you look in the sef_ext.php file there is a whole lot of replacements near the start - you should be able to add your character to that.

Regarding whether google indexes the products - I have not had google index my product categories. It has indexed one or two products accessible from the front page I think but since I've been through a few iterations I'm not sure what config I had. It did index my manufacturers which I created through my own hack. I am trying to see if I can figure out the problem through this forum http://forum.j-prosolution.com/virtuemart/2130-virtuemart-sef_ext-php-v4-12.html.

Using Lynx browser suggests there is a problem following the SEF urls

Thanks Eileen. It's unclear to me if either Open SEF or SEF Advance will allow Google to index all products... It seems to me that only this SEF patch can do so (See thread): http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=71&topic=17849.0

I found that thread pretty hard to make hide nor hair of - I'd like to see a good working example of it since lots of people have posted that they've had problems with it

An example is Gwen's site: http://www.doudouplanet.com It is a Virtuemart site, that as far as I can tell, has all it's product descriptions indexed.

The way i understand it, the Google spider works very much like a browser does and will follow html links where ever they go. So as long as the system links together from the index page, it should be crawled.

But the site link you have above doudou planet, that has all the product categories on the index page, so the spider can crawl everything in 2 or three levels.

So surely, if you set up a page called "Full Product List" or something and had a list of all products in your system on it from a module, then surely every product would be indexed, what ever type of seo system you are using. This would also tie in with the three level indexing

Homepage > product list > product details

But the seo URLs would also be OK as each product would still have the correct category words etc in the url. And if you had breadcrumbs on the system, it would show links to each category as well.

This page wont be made for aesthetic reasons, purely for SEO, and you could make the link to it in the footer or something, so it should be seen by the public.

Is there not a site map system, like RD Site map that will also list all products and categories?

Regards

Checkout this thread:  http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=71&topic=24734.0

It works with SEF.

Big note for all those that can't get openSEF and the sef_ext.php extension working::

First of all it is VERY VERY hard to find these files now that joomy.net and open-sef.org have now shut down.  There must be a commercial solution now.

Second, it is important to have Globals Emulation ON or the sef_ext.php placed in the /components/com_virtuemart/ directory WILL NOT WORK.

This is a security concern, so not the best solution, but that is how I got it to work.
