This is a copy of a post that I submitted @ the open-sef site. In the hope that someone can possibly help.

Hi All,

I have installed on our development server:

Joomla 1.0.11 / Virtuemart 1.06 / joomla_com_opensef_2.0.0-RC5_SP2

The sef_ext.php from Joomy.net, is installed in the virtuemart directory

This is a direct replica of our production server (without product images) and we currently have over 16,000 active products.

When SEF is disabled and debug enabled, the amount of SQL queries for J! is 16 and VM is 11, when browsing the shop at any level of the cateogory tree.

When SEF is enabled - This jumps to 325 for J! and VM is >30

The downside of this of course is page loading time, from sub 2-3 secs to over 20secs to load.

Also the menu entries to the shop dont use the correct naming convention, they still use .../our-online-shop/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,37/

Anybody any ideas??

After being informed from the open-sef forum about the cause of the excessive DB reads, it's the sef_ext.php that you use.

I have changed the sef.php from Joomy to this version from UserXP

The queries are now reduced to 200ish, and the site is way more responsive.

But the url's that are generated are not really human readable -

..../our-online-shop/starter-2000_353/durkwoodbbs0nmcg_108016.html

Instead of

..../our-online-shop/starter-2000/durkwood-boars.html

The quest for open-sef and VM installed & working in harmony goes on  Huh

Hi

@grA$ - I have looked at the solution proposed and the sites that have been designed used. The 2 things that stop me using this solution, is that it does not cover the checkout process, and the pages are only numbered.

@gwen - My client accepts that's it's taking time to sort out a SEF solution, but wont accept 2007 as a solution. I think I will be forced to change platform and e-com solution before then, or lose the client. It's a real shame as Joomla and VM are an amazing platform to work with.

Our dream SEF is hxxp://www.site.com/store/category/product.html or product[1].html if there are multiple products with the same name in a category (as we have), but as I say it's only a dream......
